Distinguishing real people from AI bots is the real struggle in today’s world. Even more so is the effort to differentiate genuine people from those just running after clout. The recent controversy of Erica Marsh, a Twitter account, goes the same way.
The US Supreme Court’s decision to ban affirmative action has caused the educational society to break out into protests all over social media. Posts upon posts are being uploaded to express polarizing opinions on the matter.
At such a crucial and sensitive time, a Twitter account by the name of Erica Marsh enters the stage to shake things up a bit and rile up both the parties who are in favor and against the ruling.
Who Is Erica Marsh?
Erica Marsh is a Twitter account handle that went viral due to tweeting a flaming opinion on the social media site. The tweet stated that the Supreme Court decision is a direct attack on Black people are they cannot succeed in a merit-based system. The underhanded remark made people aghast as comments started flooding in.
Many think the tweet was made by a conservative who is just acting to be a liberal. The person behind the account is supposedly posting tweets to provoke conservatives so they can think this is what liberals are like.
Others assume that it is just an AI account that is being used to gather a big following, harvest data, or for some hidden agenda. However, the fact that the account has a blue tick mark has made things more confusing.
Erica Marsh is a character from One Tree Hill, a tv series that was aired from 2003-2012. The image used in the Twitter account is also of the same fictional character portrayed by Katherine Bailess. Many assume it is an AI-generated image, and the fictional character’s name suggests that it is indeed a bot.
An apology was posted from the account after the previous tweet went viral. The person has clarified that they did not mean to suggest Black individuals are less intelligent than other races. However, it was too late, as everyone considered the previous statement true and the apology just a way of backing out from the heat.
Reactions to Erica Marsh’s Tweet
People on Twitter have called out Erica for the racist tweet that suggests Black people are less intelligent than people belonging to other races. While the intention to denounce the banning of affirmative action was correct, the execution of the tweet made the account come under fire.
As expected, reactions to the tweet suggested extreme anger at the account holder. Black people have tweeted their achievements as a response to prove their merit, and conservatives have used the tweet to prove that liberals are racist.
Others have simply dismissed the existence of a real person behind this tweet and regard the tweet as rage bait.
Do you think a real person is behind this highly insensitive viral tweet? Or is it just a parody account created for clout?

She is telling the truth, about how liberals really feel. I know and talk to many liberals in my travels. They admit it, the fact that some are now saying, it’s a republican plot, just watch Bill Clinton’s testimony. Anytime the truth is revealed, they blame it on the Republicans.
The DNC (under Jon Cooper) bought a massive number of Twitter accounts with dark money. They converted them to “follow/unfollow bots” and then started automating DNC propaganda traffic. The channel Upper Echelon broke this WIDE open on YouTube.

Erica Marsh is aa fake as Nathalie Jacoby, the infamously hatred clickbait queen of twitter, who posts photos of right wing crazies along with idiotic questions like, What does Lauren Boebert smell like?” I don’t know about Boebert but Nathalie Jacoby smells like a grifter.
The tell that it’s an account with a nefarious agenda, automated or human directed, is that it is sowing seeds of division. Machiaveli 101. Even if there is a real person who is just using a pseudonym the nature of the content of the Erica Marsh account appears to be poisonous. Like other content of the same emotionally charged flavor, one would be wise to avoid consuming it The tell is in your own emotional reaction to the words. If they inflame a strong emotional response in you then it is wise to take a moment and think about the implications of that. Why is this account presenting information that is tailor made to elicit a strong emotional response? How did they so easily penetrate my heart and get me riled up? Consider these questions before reacting. Accounts like ‘Erica’s’ are clearly aimed at inspiring and enhancing division. Who benefits from this division? Do the ones who become inflamed by reading the divisive language benefit or do the people/companies/governments who deploy such accounts benefit? If consuming divisive content balkanizes the population, who benefits? When the colonial powers wanted to establish themselves in a new area they would research the local tribes and discover the grievances they had with each other. They would use this knowledge as a weapon to turn the groups against each other, pouring poison into their ears till each tribe wanted to destroy their neighbors. In this way they were able to conquer huge numbers of people with relatively few. This strategy is not new and is in wide use on social media today. The indication that you might be being manipulated by online content is your own heart’s reaction to the words.
She apologized, I do not thin bots apologize. Did she erased her account?
I’ve been following the Erica Marsh account for quite some time now. It could be a pure AI bot or a human-directed bot. But it is ABSOLUTELY not a parody account. Anyone who suggests that is just plan wrong. There’s been a lot of chatter from the Erica Marsh account applauding the death of Ashli Babbit as a justified killing of a terrorist and asking if Donald Trump should receive the death penalty for classified documents.
