Numerous fans saw the international celebrity dragging a cart full of groceries through a Publix in Miami. Fans present at the mall requested him to squeeze in a few selfies. The news went viral across social media, leading to abundantly hilarious tweets.
Why Is Messi in Florida?
After much anticipation, Lionel Messi finally declared his preference for the team he would join.
“I have made the decision that I am going to Miami,” Messi said.
The soccer star confirmed to ESPN in June 2023 that he would move stateside as he joined MLS’ Inter Miami. He further said –
“I still don’t have it agreed upon 100% and a few things are needed, but well, we decided to continue my path there.”
“After winning the World Cup and not being able to return to Barcelona, it was my turn to go to the league of the United States to live football in another way and to enjoy the day to day more. Obviously, with the same responsibility and desire to play well and do things well as always. But in a calmer way.”
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) ended their contract with Messi after playing two seasons. Before that, Messi’s entire career was dedicated to Barcelona. David Beckham is a co-owner of the Miami team that Messi recently joined.
A source informed the outlet that Messi might play in Inter Miami’s League Cup match against Cruz Azul of Mexico on July 21.
What Did Messi Buy at Publix?
Contrary to Messi’s image, he was seen casually walking in the aisles of Publix, purchasing sugary cereals. The incident soon became international news, and people at the mall were shocked to see the soccer GOAT.
Messi was seen indulging with the fans and clicking pictures. The mall was soon filled with fans, and the internet was bombarded.
Reportedly, Publix is a sponsor for MLS’ Inter Miami. Publix also has a sandwich named after the MLS. A special Boar’s Head Salsalito turkey breast, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and cilantro lime dressing is also included.
Moreover, they also offer subrolls. Messi’s widely publicized visit to his neighborhood Publix brought in an estimated $3.3 million in brand exposure and marketing for both the Florida retailer and High Noon, a vodka seltzer company.
