Episode 1071 of One Piece Explained
The episode begins with Luffy attaining Gear 5. He starts laughing uncontrollably, and everything he touches seems to bounce like rubber. Luffy wonders how he can stand after getting defeated. Momonosuke, on the other hand, can hear Zunesha saying Luffy is Joy Boy.
Sanji is awakened by the sound of Luffy’s heartbeat. The Wano castle can hear the beating as it echoes all throughout the place. Everyone is relieved that Luffy is alive.
The screen pans to Mary Geoise, where the Five Elders discuss the rarity of the Gomu Gomi no Mi. They reveal that since the 800 years of the World Government’s founding, they have been in search of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, but it always evaded them as if it had a mind of its own.
They further unveiled that the Gomu Gomu no Mi is actually a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, “Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.” Once awakened, the fruit can give unimaginable powers to the user and grant them freedom.
Next, the scene shift to Orochi, who is trapped and injured and pleads with Hiyori to save him. Hiyori reminds him of the cruel treatment and unjust practices that Oden had to face because of him and Kaidou. Oden went through every torture with a smiling face and was only incarcerated at the end.
As Oden shamelessly pleads with her, Hiyori abandons her mask to show how disgusted she is. Oden shows his true colors soon as he orders Kanjuro to destroy Hiyori but instead gets lit on fire himself.
Finally, the episode brings us back to Luffy, who has attained Gear 5 and grabs Kaidou with a giant arm. He drags Kaido’s dragon form as if it is just a squishy toy. Kaido fires Bolo Breath at him, but Luffy bends the ground itself to reflect the attack back onto the dragon. Both prepare to have their final battle.
Reactions to One Piece Episode 1071
Most fans agree that episode 1071 of One Piece is epic despite some of the repeating animations. Luffy has attained Gear 5, but its powers will be fully explored in the next episode.
Many believe that inserting the scene of Hiyori and Orochi in the middle made the tempo come down a bit, and it could’ve been edited into a later episode.
The animation itself was a nod to the old Looney Toons or Tom and Jerry style animation, especially the fight with Kaidou. It was beautifully done.
Last but not least, the voice actor of Luffy received immense praise for bringing life to the character. The voice artist did incredible work in the episode.
