TweetDeck was first introduced in 2008 to manage Twitter timelines and multiple accounts on one screen. The app had a user-friendly interface that included a customizable column where in you can organize your mentions, lists, trends, direct messages, search results, favorites, hashtags, or all tweets by or to a single user.
TweetDeck was an apt app to manage your multiple accounts, schedule tweets or send them instantly, and edit the link of any length to use only 23 characters from the limit of 280 characters.
Overall, the app was the most convenient means of using Twitter and absolutely free of cost.
But then Elon Musk rebranded Twitter as X. And thus began a new era of accessing a social media platform. The key asset of this rebranding was the blue subscription. According to Musk, if the user pays for the subscription, they will enjoy a whole set of privileges than a standard user. The irony is that the platform is advocated for “Free Speech.” Nevertheless, these changes were also reflected in the TweetDeck app, which is now rebranded as X Pro.
What Happened to TweetDeck Now?
From August 15 onwards, the TweetDeck app has discontinued its free services and is now changed to X Pro.
Now when you browse its official website, you will get a popup that asks you to get the blue subscription. This Blue Subscription paid services offer the following benefits–

- You can access the existing blue features– edit tweet and bookmark folders.
- You can post longer videos in up to 1080p.
- You get the benefit of a 25000 character limit for posts, quotes, and replies.
- You can edit your post five times within 30 minutes.
- Your timeline will have two times more posts between ads than a standard timeline.
- You can set your profile picture as the NFT you own.
You can avail all these features for $84 a year.
How Do I Get Back to the Old TweetDeck?
Just last month, Twitteratti rejoiced when the previous version of TweetDeck was back on. The new version of TweetDeck had unnecessary updates, which can be unlocked only if you got the blue subscription plan.
However, Twitter HQ decided to release the old and better version of TweetDeck to the users. Here’s how to switch back to the old TweetDeck.
- Open your Twitter app.
- Go to the Users Settings.
- You will see the first option as “Your account.”
- Under that section, you will find an option that says, “TweetDeck version,” which allows you to switch back to the previous version of TweetDeck.
However, you can no longer avail this option since TweetDeck has transformed to X Pro– you can only access the services if you pay for the subscription.
Naturally, netizens did not agree with these changes in the app. Here are a few opinions on TweetDeck turning into a paid app.
What is your take on this change? Do you think it’s a fair deal? Would you pay for these services or switch to another third-party app?

Is there any Extension/ Addons that allows to get the old tweetdeck layout in X (formerly twitter)?
THIS IS PATHETIC . Please. As if just getting weak minded attorneys who used to be with Trump turning and getting pummeled by evil people in our government is going to upsurp GOD’s will, please. Next. If God is for us nobody can be against us. ANd at the name of Jesus EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tongue shall confess that JESUS IS LORD> no matter how many evil people are involved in trying to suppress TRUTH and denying that the election was stolen it doesn’t matter. In the end GOD WINS and satanic evil people will lose.
New tweetdeck was a mess in terms of columns management.
The articole is not clear: with the X Pro subscription, the user is forced to use the new tweetdeck GUI or he could access to the old version, too?
Well I’m not happy about paying for something I have had for free since 2009. While reading other comments, from this site and others, I can see some hypocrisy in their complaints. For example, Washington Post ‘PAYING SUBSCRIBERS’ complaining about Musk charging for the ‘most popular’ social media site. I like Tweet Deck. I’m not a journalist. I have many columns. My focus is investing. It’s only $8 a month. I’m probably gonna pay up because frankly, it’s worth it for me to get the information I want almost instantly.
