TweetDeck was first introduced in 2008 to manage Twitter timelines and multiple accounts on one screen. The app had a user-friendly interface that included a customizable column where in you can organize your mentions, lists, trends, direct messages, search results, favorites, hashtags, or all tweets by or to a single user.

TweetDeck was an apt app to manage your multiple accounts, schedule tweets or send them instantly, and edit the link of any length to use only 23 characters from the limit of 280 characters.

Overall, the app was the most convenient means of using Twitter and absolutely free of cost.

But then Elon Musk rebranded Twitter as X. And thus began a new era of accessing a social media platform. The key asset of this rebranding was the blue subscription. According to Musk, if the user pays for the subscription, they will enjoy a whole set of privileges than a standard user. The irony is that the platform is advocated for “Free Speech.” Nevertheless, these changes were also reflected in the TweetDeck app, which is now rebranded as X Pro.

What Happened to TweetDeck Now?

From August 15 onwards, the TweetDeck app has discontinued its free services and is now changed to X Pro.

Now when you browse its official website, you will get a popup that asks you to get the blue subscription. This Blue Subscription paid services offer the following benefits–

  1. You can rank higher in conversations and searches.
  2. You can edit your text using bold and italics.
  3. You can access the existing blue features– edit tweet and bookmark folders.
  4. You can post longer videos in up to 1080p.
  5. You get the benefit of a 25000 character limit for posts, quotes, and replies.
  6. You can edit your post five times within 30 minutes.
  7. Your timeline will have two times more posts between ads than a standard timeline.
  8. You can set your profile picture as the NFT you own.

You can avail all these features for $84 a year.

How Do I Get Back to the Old TweetDeck?

Just last month, Twitteratti rejoiced when the previous version of TweetDeck was back on. The new version of TweetDeck had unnecessary updates, which can be unlocked only if you got the blue subscription plan.

However, Twitter HQ decided to release the old and better version of TweetDeck to the users. Here’s how to switch back to the old TweetDeck.

  1. Open your Twitter app.
  2. Go to the Users Settings.
  3. You will see the first option as “Your account.”
  4. Under that section, you will find an option that says, “TweetDeck version,” which allows you to switch back to the previous version of TweetDeck.

However, you can no longer avail this option since TweetDeck has transformed to X Pro– you can only access the services if you pay for the subscription.

Naturally, netizens did not agree with these changes in the app. Here are a few opinions on TweetDeck turning into a paid app.

Elon thinks I'm going to pay him for the privilege of using #tweetdeck?

Pfft. With opensource FancyZones on PowerToys, I can replicate the functionality of tweetdeck. Where there is a will, there is always a way.

I'm still not giving you any money. 🖕😂🖕 pic.twitter.com/mLT8TndRbL

Tweetdeck is officially over – unless you pay for it.

Very sad ending of one of the most amazing social media apps, in my opinion. I used Tweetdeck for everything. For years.

Still no chance I'll sell my soul for a subscription.
Anyone have a Bluesky invite? I'll pay for that! pic.twitter.com/G4gVudJEyc

TweetDeck being killed off is a truly sad day. I have had TweetDeck on a dedicated monitor on my desk for years. Open 24 hours a day.

Only the biggest dumbass on the planet would kill his social media site’s single most usedul asset.

X has finally killed free access to tweetdeck

It’s now officially a Premium subscriber-only tool

a sales page for X Premium now pops up when trying to lead Tweetdeck.

bad news for social media managers, journalists, and power users

What is your take on this change? Do you think it’s a fair deal? Would you pay for these services or switch to another third-party app?

From a little girl who wrote school plays and made her friends act in them to an adolescent who got into dark humor, Yashica has built her own universe of peculiar characters inspired by great cinema. She has imbibed the philosophies of David Fincher's characters but lives like the eccentricity of Phoebe Waller Bridge's women. Her metahumans are those who can use the power of words to create an elixir of emotions and bring them to life on screen. Jordan Peele, Issa Rae, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ilana-Abbi, Raj-DK, Anurag Kashyap, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and others are her Marvel's Avengers. With over two years of experience as a content writer, her writing pieces are well-researched, with a sprinkle of her opinions/inferences that keep the audiences engaged. She is still exploring more on the anime scene but is highly intrigued by it. The cinephile in her makes her appreciate the intricacies of filmmaking. You will get a lot more insight into it in her articles and thoroughly enjoy her explanations. Well, someday, you might see Yashica as one of the writers for a movie-- it's her ultimate dream!
