With Kansas City absolutely dominating their last four games, Travis Kelce has always been the crucial player who made the difference alongside others like Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones.
However, during Sunday’s game, Travis Kelce gave fans a shocking surprise against the Vikings as things took a turn for the worse when he had to drop out of the game temporarily.
On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. While their scores were leveled by halftime at 13-13, Chiefs’ Tight end player, Travis Kelce, suffered an injury after slipping and hurting his ankle. However, he arrived later during the final quarter and scored a winning touchdown.
How Did Travis Kelce Get Injured During the Game?
Even though the Kansas City Chiefs showed a dominating game throughout the first two quarters, the Vikings held their ground and tied up the scores before the Chiefs could hop on a scoring streak.
However, at halftime, Travis Kelce was seen limping off the field as he went to the sidelines. The injury was due to his uneven footing while catching a short pass, which resulted in no touchdown.
As he tried to walk back and forth for a while to see if he could re-enter the game before the third quarter finished, he felt it would be better to examine the injury further and walked into the locker room.
During Kelce’s absence, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, once again tied down the Vikings. However, Kelce was back in the game shortly, and he made sure to turn the game around.
He played with utmost confidence throughout the fourth quarter and eventually scored a spectacular winning touchdown with a clean grab at the goal line, resulting in their victory with the scores 27-20.
After the game, Patrick Mahomes told the reporters that he was sure Travis Kelce would return to play. After all, Kelce is his best and favorite receiver as the team’s leading tight-end player. In his words,
“I feel like Travis has the same mindset I do. If you give him a window to get back in the game, he’s going to be back in the game. Competitor, man. That’s why he’s one of the greatest, and he can battle through stuff like that.”
He also expressed how Kelce always finds the perfect opportunity to take a pass and leads the team to victory. He added,
“I have those moments where I’m like, ‘I’m about to get crushed,’ and I look over, and ’87’ is just running free. He’s been with me a long time. He knows how to get himself open whenever he gets an opportunity.”
Thankfully, Travis has avoided a severe injury that might have put a dent in his career, and he was back in the field stronger than ever.
Especially after he missed the first game of the season against Detroit due to a knee injury he suffered during training, fans would be worried even more when an injury escalates the situation.
While he seems free of injury for the time being, we will have to wait and see whether these minor injuries crop up and affect his performance in the long run, although it is unlikely, given the player takes extra care of his body.
