Reality TV personality Shep Rose, famous among Bravoholics for his appearances on shows like Southern Charm and Season 1 of Southern Hospitality, has been a fixture on our screens for over a decade.
Known for his love of a good time, Shep is now in his 40s and looking to make positive changes in his life.
Following a memorable and perhaps hazy weekend at BravoCon and other such nights, Shep has indicated to his fans that he’s ready to switch things up.
But how? And what exactly happened at BravoCon?
In November 2023, Shep Rose/ William Shepherd Rose III stirred trouble at BravoCon in Las Vegas. Paige Davis described his behavior as “belligerent” and “wasted,” resulting in his removal from a gambling table by security. Shep acknowledged his issues during the “Southern Charm” Season 9 reunion, confessing to a lack of self-control. After this, Shep altered his drinking habits, choosing beer over hard liquor. But he didn’t entirely abandon alcohol. His realization of self-neglect and the need for change prompted this shift.
Explained: What Did Shep Rose Do at BravoCon? Was He Drunk?
In November 2023, Bravo enthusiasts from across the nation gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada, for an extravagant three-day event known as BravoCon. As expected, the event was brimming with drama, providing attendees with stories to share for weeks to come.
One particular incident involving TV personality Shep Rose or William Shepherd Rose III garnered significant attention.
After returning from BravoCon, Paige Davis, the former host of “Trading Spaces,” opened up about Shep’s behavior during the event.
In an interview on Jeff Lewis Live, she described Shep as “belligerent” and “wasted” while sitting next to her at a gambling table. She said (via Taste of Reality):
“He was belligerent and wasted. Like, ordering fireball shots from the waitress and the waitress had to cut him off… Shep refused to stack the chips, so the dealer kept saying to him, ‘I need you to stack your chips.’ Shep snapped, ‘You stack my f**king chips for me.’ Security ‘had to escort him out. He was so belligerent. He was so nasty.’”
Her vivid recollection of the event, which she deemed “horrific,” quickly circulated on social media, raising concerns about Shep’s potential issues with alcohol.
The aftermath of this revelation led to a moment of reckoning for Shep himself.
During the first part of the Southern Charm Season 9 reunion, surrounded by his castmates and host Andy Cohen, Shep candidly addressed his behavior at BravoCon.
He admitted that his drinking had spiraled out of control during the Las Vegas weekend, to the extent that he had blacked out and couldn’t recall certain events. In his own words, Shep confessed (via US Weekly):
“Guys, I’m glad you’re all here. It’s sort of a mea culpa. I’m at a crossroads. BravoCon was sort of the impetus. I was out of control drunk in Las Vegas, and I don’t remember a bunch, and it scared the sh** out of me. I was really scared.”
His friends, including Austen Kroll, played varying roles in dealing with his shocking state.
Despite past romantic entanglements with Shep’s former girlfriend, Taylor Ann Green, Austen earned praise from Andy for caring for Shep during his inebriated state at BravoCon.
Andy commended Austen, saying, “He was being a real friend to you. You should know that.”
During the reunion, Shep clarified that he hadn’t sworn off alcohol entirely but had made some changes to his drinking habits. He explained:
“I just don’t drink liquor. I don’t drink shots. I just drink beer.”
This transformation was prompted by his realization that he had been neglecting his physical and mental well-being.
He also recounted his thoughts during BravoCon, saying:
“I didn’t have anything. I thought, ‘Who am I? How am I of any value to anybody? You’re hurting yourself, bro. My body and my mind are telling me, ‘No, no, no, sir.’ I can’t do it anymore the way that I used to.”
Shep was candid about the far-reaching consequences of his relationship with alcohol.
He acknowledged that his drinking, coupled with his infidelity, had contributed to the end of his relationship with Taylor Ann Green.
The couple, who had begun dating in 2020, shocked fans when they split in June 2022, particularly those who had witnessed their journey together on Season 7 of “Southern Charm.”
According to Shep, their relationship might have taken a different trajectory had it not been for his struggles with alcohol and the glare of reality TV.
Taylor Ann Green, who also attended the reunion, listened attentively as her former partner poured his heart out on stage.
She expressed happiness at hearing Shep’s desire for personal growth and authenticity moving forward, stating, “I know the real Shep. He’s an incredible, kind, smart human being.”
It will be interesting to see how much Shep can stick to his resolutions going forward.
“Southern Charm” airs on Bravo at 8 p.m. EST. on Thursdays.
