On October 25, 2023, UFC CEO Dana White announced details regarding Jon Jones and his injuries. The UFC heavyweight champion is out of the UFC 295 title fight against Stipe Miocic on November 11. Jones got injured during his wrestling training and tore the tendon that connects his pectoral muscle to the bone. It was further revealed that the injury would need surgery. Hence, he was sidelined for 8 months. The fighter won’t be able to return to fighting this year or early next year.
Here’s Why Jon Jones Is Out of the Fight
Over time, UFC has gained a lot of sports buffs and young dreamers. These fans often feel connected to their favorite fighter, resulting in them worrying about the health conditions of these fighters. A couple of months ago, the internet was filled with questions asking about Vicente Luque’s injury.
Another fighter is injured, and supporters are praying best for him. On October 25, 2023, UFC CEO Dana White made an unexpected announcement regarding Jon Jones’ withdrawal from UFC 295. He was scheduled to play against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on November 11.
Dana further revealed that Jon sustained a serious pectoral injury during his training sessions. In detail, it was disclosed that a pectoralis major tendon was torn, which usually happened by a sudden or eccentric force.
Moreover, detachment of the tissues from the shoulder bone needs urgent and necessary surgery. Ultimately, Jones needed approximately 6 to 9 months after the surgery, sabotaging his chances to fight further.
Dana also declared the estimated time of Jon’s absence and the timeline for his recovery. After having surgery, he will be referred for physical therapy. Hence, he is currently sidelined for almost 8 months. However, it also includes that the timeline will differ as it aligns with the medically suggested rehabilitation time.
With Jon Jones out of the picture, the UFC has now adjusted the sequence for the fight for UFC 295. In the new main event, Alex Pereira is set to face off against Jiri Prochazka in a 5-round battle. Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall will go against each other in the interim heavyweight championship.
