Anthony ‘Big Jook’ Mims, the older brother of famous rapper Yo Gotti, has passed away after getting fatally shot on Winchester Road’s 6300 block, near the Event Center and Perignons Restaurant in Memphis.

As the devastating news unfolded, the streets outside Perignons Restaurant and St. Francis Hospital bore witness to a heavy police presence.

Shock and sorrow gripped the community as they grappled with the loss of a music industry figurehead on January 13, 2024.

Big Jook’s Instagram stories, posted just before the tragedy, painted a picture of him honoring his late uncle Eric as a legendary kingpin, clad in a black suit amongst family members at the funeral service.

Deputy Police Chief Paul Wright’s press conference shed some light on the situation.

He hinted that the shooting might have targeted Big Jook and another victim who was critically injured during the incident and airlifted to Regional One Health from St. Francis Hospital.

Both victims had gathered at the restaurant for a repast service, adding to the complexity of the case.

Yo Gotti, the celebrated rapper and Big Jook’s younger brother has remained surprisingly silent since the tragic loss of his sibling. While the world waits for Gotti’s response, speculation and rumors run rampant on social media platforms.

One thread of speculation that has emerged links Big Jook’s murder to the tragic killing of rapper Young Dolph in 2021.

The historical feud between Dolph and Yo Gotti has been well-documented, leading some to speculate that Big Jook’s untimely death might be a retaliatory act in the ongoing rivalry.

The location where Big Jook was shot down is in close proximity to his brother’s Memphis restaurant and the site of Young Dolph’s tragic demise.

Notably, arrests were made in connection with Dolph’s murder. Cornelius Smith and Justin Johnson faced charges related to the shooting, while Hernandez Govan was indicted as the alleged mastermind behind the act.

Amidst the chaos of rumors, there have been unconfirmed speculations that Big Jook was seen with Hernandez Govan, the supposed orchestrator of Young Dolph’s murder.

Blogger Vada Fly even made a speculative tweet alluding to this connection. In a further twist, Hernandez Govan’s daughter, Lotta Cash Desto, also a rapper, met a tragic end in September 2022, further fueling rumors of retaliatory actions linked to Dolph’s murder.

Overall, the tragic shooting of Big Jook in Memphis has cast a somber cloud over the hip-hop world and left many questions unanswered.
