AJ Hawk, as one of the best NFL players, had quite a fantastic career, spending eight years with the Green Bay Packers and one year each with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons, before retiring in 2017.

What Exactly Happened to AJ Hawk’s Eye, and Why Did He Wear an Eye Patch?

Well, he didn’t go on a treasure hunt but still ended up injuring his cornea due to an unexpected incident. Hawk explained what exactly happened on the show. In his words,
“Straight eye patch put on this morning. Yeah. I bent down to pick up Axel, and he threw his arm up so fast, his thumb went 6 inches deep into my eyeball, and his nail chopped off a part of my eye, I guess.”
“When I went to the doctor, they said a third of your cornea is gone and is a big divot out of there. I can’t see. I can barely see anything now. I’m not sure of anything, but it should grow back and be good.”
Following his answer, Pat McAfee asked whether it would be permanent, a worry many of us would have, but Hawk confirmed that the injury was temporary and the cornea would regrow in a few days at best.
He also told Pat McAfee that he will be seeing his doctor once more so that he can remove the patch and take necessary precautions to speed up the recovery process, and everything should hopefully be good.
