Scooter Braun was once a respected manager of stars like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, etc. But now it looks like his empire is suddenly crumbling as several high-profile clients are dumping him and getting out of his management.
Talents like Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Idina Menzel have left Scooter Braun’s management company, SB Project, in quick succession. Justin Bieber was also reported to have cut ties with Scooter, but his reps have since denied that. Fans think an explosive reveal is coming out soon. Others think Scooter will focus more on managing HYBE America than SB Projects.
What Did Scooter Braun Do?
The entire pop music fandom has been plunged into controversies for a few days now, and it’s all because of Scooter Braun. Recently, news broke that Justin Bieber has departed Braun’s management and is looking for a new team.
The worldwide famous singer was discovered by Scooter when he was only a 13-year-old singing on YouTube. Even though Braun and Bieber’s reps have denied this, people aren’t convinced.
Matthew Beloni, behind the original Puck report of Beiber leaving Braun, said that Justin was still contractually bound to Scooter, which might have urged him to negate the news in public.
Also, what has made people so unconvinced about Justin’s statement is the fact that apart from Beiber, stars like Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and Idina Menzel have parted ways from Braun’s management company- SB Projects.
This has obviously stirred up rumors, but there’s no concrete information about why so many talented celebs are jumping from Scooter’s company so suddenly and all together in such quick succession.
Various publications have reached out to Scooter’s reps and the stars who are jumping ship. But no one is ready to talk and are remaining tight-lipped. As such, the popular speculation is that something bombastic will drop about Scooter soon.
Fans think the celebs know about this and are rushing to cut ties with him to save themselves from the embarrassment of working with him. That’s not all. J Balvin, signed by Braun in 2019, parted ways with the company in May 2023. Variety noted that:
“Reps are stonewalling and insiders are clamming up fast; it’s like trying to get an accurate status update on Fight Club or Voldemort.”
However, there are rumors that artists are leaving Braun’s SB Projects camp because of his diminishing presence with the company. Variety reported that Scooter plans to decrease his day-to-day involvement with the management at SB Projects.
This is so he can devote more time to his new position as HYBE America’s CEO. It is a South Korean entertainment company that manages K-pop bands, and this includes BTS as well.
Not many will be aware that Ithica Holdings, the parent company of SB Projects, was sold to HYBE back in 2021. The magazine reported that:
“All of Scooter Braun’s clients are under contract and negotiations have been going on for several months as Scooter steps into his larger role as HYBE America CEO. People are spreading rumours based on what they know, but they are off. Scooter’s team at SB Projects are still handling both Justin and Ariana as they work through what this new structure looks like.”
Even though Scooter has lost many big-name clients, he still had high-profile stars like Carly Rae Jepsen, Ashley Graham, and Tori Kelly.
On the other hand, many people think that Taylor Swift knew karma was coming for Scooter Braun. Her fans believe that the lyrics of her song Vigilante Shit refer to shady dealings by Braun. The lyrics go as follows:
“While he was doing lines / And crossing all of mine / Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI.”
So could a federal investigation be coming for the SB Project boss? No one knows right now, as everything is pure speculation. People are eagerly waiting for the latest news.
