It all started in September 2021, when Sage appeared on the Uncut With Jay Cutler podcast. She was addressing the issue of vaccination related to COVID-19. She was just vaccinated and called ESPN’s mandatory vaccination policy sick.
She also called out Barbra Walters for her racial comments on Sage.
Steele informed Cutler that Walters had questioned her about the race she would select for her census during their conversation. Sage replied to both. Cutler brought up Obama’s answer and said:

Sage replied:
And I’m like, well, congratulations to the president. That’s his thing. I think that’s fascinating considering his Black dad was nowhere to be found but his white mom and grandma raised him. But hey, you do you, I’m going to do me.
Sage received massive backlash across the world. She was soon discontinued from the shows she was in with ESPN.
Sage sued ESPN for sidelining her and suspending her. ESPN later denied any allegations about suspending her. The channel has confirmed the mutual settlement of the case.
