July 2023 movie, Sound of Freedom, throws the spotlight on one of the darker sides of society, child trafficking. Despite the movie’s integrity, it has been attacked by several media outlets for appealing to conspiracy theories.
From calling the film designed for the “conscience of a conspiracy-addled boomer” to mocking the actor Caviezel for his conservative faith, the movie has received ruthless remarks with no actual basis for them.
Those who have watched the movie have protested against the unusual criticism through social media posts. One tweet that discussed the film brought up the topic of Ashton Kutcher’s 2017 video in which the actor is speaking against the heinous crime of child trafficking, resulting in the video going viral again.
What Is Ashton Kutcher’s Video on Child Trafficking?
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore’s company, Thorn, participated in ‘Shine a Light on Slavery’ Day in 2017, where different organizations ensemble to talk about the steps they have taken against human trafficking. The viral video is a clip of Kutcher’s speech in front of the US Senate as he talks about the steps Thorn has taken.
In the viral video, Kutcher talks about the horrors of child trafficking he had faced. He claims that he has two children, and the responsibility of protecting them falls on him. Kutcher gets emotional as he talks about children the age of his own who have been sexually abused.
The actor further explains another case where the Department of Homeland Security contacted his team and then him to report that a 7-year-old was being sexually exploited for three years, and the content was being distributed on the dark web. The authorities sought Thorn’s help to find the perpetrator.
Kutcher finds it extremely emotional that “an actor and his organization” was their last line of defense.
What Is Ashton Kutcher’s Organization Called?
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Lovato founded an anti-human trafficking organization named Thorn, previously known as DNA. The organization focuses on developing technological barriers and other initiatives to ensure the safety of children online. Their goal is to deter sexual predators on the Internet.
The company was founded in 2009 after Moore viewed a documentary about human trafficking and child sexual slavery. She acted immediately as she researched and found out such acts were rampant in the USA.
As the team began to research further into the issue, they discovered that technology played a huge role in extending crime. So they decided to support tech that would counter online sexual abuse of children.
In 2014, the team prototyped a product to identify child sex trafficking victims who were exposed online, and the product was provided to law enforcement for free. Currently, Thorn houses an engineering and data science team that solely focuses on combating the spread of online sexual abuse.
The threat of child sexual abuse and the online spread of the heinous content is very much real. The dark web holds countless videos documenting these crimes. No one in their right mind should ignore the message the Sound of Freedom presents.
