TikTok is known for some wild trends. This time, I’m not talking about the ones where people licked toilet seats to protest against pandemic regulations or the skull-breaker challenge. This time it is less dangerous but way more cringy.
Yes, I’m talking about the 777 anime filters, which have been going viral for all the wrong reasons.
You must already be aware of the multiple TikTok filters with NSFW content that pop up from time to time. Users worldwide use them, get shocked and report it till the app bans them. That’s how the usual procedure goes, and it was the same this time, but not before multiple otakus were traumatized.
So what is this bizarre anime filter that is suddenly trending and has TikToker panties in a bunch? Read on to learn more.
What Is the TikTok 777 Anime Filter?
The TikTok 777 anime filter is an unassuming filter that suggests you choose between two pictures of your favorite anime character. The first pictures have cute and standard images, but some very explicit images are shown from the second round onward.
The problem is that the filters’ characters are often underage. From Demon Slayer’s Nezuko, Shinobu to Naruto and even My Hero Academia’s Eri are involved. To put things into perspective, Eri is just seven years old.
Unsuspecting TikTokers have often opened the filters thinking of having a good time, only to be shocked by the explicit content.
As the filters spread, many creators issued warnings against them, which only led to more searches. However, it is currently unclear if TikTok has been able to delete all the filters yet.
After the filters went viral, more and more kept cropping up, featuring different characters. Some even advise viewers to use the filters quickly before they get banned.
Unfortunately, this is not a new trend. In May, a Princess Peach filter went viral, which contained sexually inappropriate images of the Mario characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.
The same format for choosing images was used at the time, and it was quick to get banned.
However, with thousands of users creating filters daily, it is a herculean task to go through them all and identify the disturbing ones. Users seem to be taking advantage of the matter as they upload NSFW filters and then try to make them go viral before they are taken down.
