Starfield has become an exhilarating ride for many gamers with its unique space adventure concept. Whether you want to embark on a space journey just to appreciate the visuals or to live a pirate life, stealing everything you can and escaping the authorities like a Mandalorian does in Star Wars, this is your game.

However, even if you are particularly not interested in contraband, you’re likely to stumble upon one eventually. When such a thing happens, it is easy to be caught by the authorities who scan every ship entering their galaxy.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to sell stolen items and contraband and even sneak them past the authorities without them noticing. However, it requires hard work and a little luck.

So, read on to find out more about the available solutions to make your illegal rides easier in the galaxy.

How to Sell Contraband and Stolen Items in Starfield?

You can pick up illegal items in #Starfield but watch out because there are drugs that the game labels as contraband and UC sec will scan your ship once you hit orbit. You can get arrested and go to jail!!! 😶‍🌫️🚀💯 pic.twitter.com/06bylOjet1

Contraband usually ranges from anything illegal, such as banned drugs, restricted scriptures, and sometimes even confidential files you steal from facilities. One of the easiest ways to recognize them would be through the yellow marker present next to their name.

So, assuming that you have somehow found contraband or just stole some confidential items that you don’t want authorities to see, there are a few ways you can sell them and make profits without having a bounty over your head while trying to jump into another system using Gravdrive Jump.

Normal merchants would definitely not want to do anything with stolen items and contraband, but what you can do is find some major settlements like Freestar, where traders don’t mind buying whatever the items you have, even if they are not attained through legal means.

You can use the directories to find the Trade Authority Merchant building after arriving in a major city, but do keep in mind that they put on a reputable front not to get caught by the authorities. Once you find them, you’re good to go, and you can repeat this process however many times you want.

While there are many ways to smuggle contraband in Starfield, the most effective and easiest one would be to use a Shielded Cargo Hold, a storage space that blocks incoming authority scans.

It has a downside, though. It only works a few times, so in case you’re stuck in a situation where you’re found to be carrying contraband, your only option would be to jump into another system and clear out your bounty at the Trackers Alliance Self-Service Bounty Clearance kiosk.

If you’re interested in trying out alternate options, Scan Jammers also work wonders occasionally, but you must also have a Shielded Cargo Hold. Nonetheless, it is recommended to pack as many Scan Jammers as you can since they are disposable.

These two gadgets would get you pretty far in the game, but if you’re planning huge-scale smuggling, we also highly recommend you learn the Deception Skill, which, while costing a lot of credits, will come in quite handy at almost every point of the game.

Where to Find Contraband?

LMAO my ship's cargo is full, so I've been forced to dump everything on the ground.

What's worse, the other ship I commandeered on day 1 is gone (wanted to sell or take parts) & I have contraband, so I'm currently unable to go planets with the trader that will buy it #Starfield pic.twitter.com/GgfcGw0sBn

So, you have officially become a smuggler in the game and want to improve your business by sneaking more contraband and selling it for profit. Where do you find more contraband, then?

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that contraband items are usually found in places like pirate bases and hidden facilities. You can try examining certain items and see if it has a yellow tag, and if you continue doing this for a longer time, it is possible to become a great smuggler and make your dream come true.

So, have you been enjoying Starfield? What are your favorite systems that you enjoy jumping into?
