Starfield has much to offer in terms of exploration, whether Grav Jump, Habs, Ship Customization, or even a Transfer Container, to loot the items with ease. While it certainly has other functions that players often tend to forget, they slowly realize the potential.

Crew Skills is one such feature of Starfield that will make your game harder and decline your experience if you fail to utilize them. Even though you can still have fun without it, why miss out on additional benefits?

So, what are the crew skills in Starfield? And how to use them? More than anything, what are some of the best Crew members you can select? Here’s a concise guide to clarify all your doubts.

Although there are a lot of passive skills in Starfield, Crew Skills are hard to come by and often need a certain amount of understanding to get the most out of them.

In general, Crew skills in Starfield are the skills provided by each crewmate you select, and these skills immediately take effect on the ship, depending on the crew member you choose.

For example, if you have hired a crew consisting of a specific skill set, whatever they may be, the perks that come with the skills are immediately assigned to the ship, but it is only limited to a certain few sets.

Let’s assume you have a crew member specializing in Piloting skills. With the added benefits the crew members possess, you can fly your ship better and faster and even unlock some B and C-class customization options.

Likewise, if you have a crew member who excels in Shield systems, your journey through the galaxies will sail smoother with extra protection aligned to your ship. However, there are a few complications in Crew skills.

Unlike skills that affect the areas out of combat, the combat-related skills in Starfield only affect the crew members you choose. In certain cases, the best option is to equip each crew member with suitable weapons to get the best out of them.

While you may have the mentality of a lone wolf in Starfield, it is always recommended to have a solid crew backing you up time and again. So, here are a few suggested crew members in Starfield.

  • Marika Boros: Marika Boros should be a fine choice if you plan to embark on dangerous missions because, thanks to her level two Ballistics, she can watch your back and ensure you return to the ship in one piece. In addition, she earned level one clearance in both Particle Beam Weapon Systems and Shotgun Certification.
  • Heller: One of the most essential things on Starfield is to have a highly specialized crewmate in Geology. In that regard, Heller can help you take care of many things, including, but not limited to, mining resources with his level three Outpost Engineering.
  • Omari Hassan: Omari Hassan can empty your pocket as it requires around 12,000 credits to gain his services, but it will be worth it. He adds a lot of defensive abilities to your ship with the help of his Shield Systems and Starship Engineering. If you particularly don’t focus on offensive strategy and like to stay alive, his services are recommended.
  • Amelia Earhart: Piloting is underrated because many people overlook it, but if you look at the broader picture, it is a must-have skill. With the added benefits of mobility and maneuvering, you can easily travel to more planets and collect resources without needing too many repairs to your ship. Amelia has level two of Piloting and level two of Rifle Certification.
  • Barret: Even if you have all the crew members mentioned above, having Barret in your team can make a huge difference. He is a great all-rounder who shines in both offensive and defensive departments. With his level four Spaceship Engineering and level three Particle Beam Weapon Systems, he reduces damage for the ship and consequently increases offensive capabilities.

It’s not that these crew members are the only good ones, as the opinion is subjective, but we found these to be quite effective and work well as a crew, considering the different talents from various professions they bring to the table.

So, how is your Starfield exploration going on? Did you assemble a crew yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
