The legion of alien species is gearing towards Earth for total invasion. It’s upon the Marvel heroes and agents to stop them from wiping off our existence. But to defeat them, it is essential to study these aliens and their intentions.
And before we go about it, let us first navigate their origin.
What Are Super Skrulls? Is Super-Skrull a Villain?
Skrull: In the MCU, millions of years ago, the Celestial (from a different planet) experimented with the genetics of the reptilian ancestors of the Skrulls. The results of the experiment categorized the Skrulls into three branches: the Prime, the Deviants, and the Eternals. These three groups battled it out to be the ultimate super-species. Since the Deviants possessed the ability to shapeshift, they wiped out the other two races.
Super Skrull: The Skrulls were further enhanced with superpowers using machines. One of the first Super Skrulls to come out of this technological enhancement was Kl’rt, the Super Skrull, who gained the ability to mimic the powers of the Fantastic Four.
Upon knowing their devious plans, the set of superheroes called the Immortals went to the Skrull Throneworld to stop them from infiltrating Earth. But their plan backfired, and the Skrulls captured them, tortured and replicated their powers for their Super Skrull program.
After Kl’rt, the Skrull Empire expanded with several other evolved Super Skrull beingsβ
- Biff Bison and Mr. Waspwind: mimic the powers of X-Men like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine
- Godkiller, a female Super-Skrull: copies the powers of Marvel powerhouses like Titania and Thundra.
- Veranke, the Skrull Queen: could imitate all of Spider-Woman Jessica Drew’s powers
- Runaways member Xavin: Very similar to Kl’rt, but could only access one Fantastic Four member’s powers at a time.
- War Skrulls were like Super-Skrulls 2.0: mimic the powers of the X-Men and other Earth mutants naturally.
Is Super-Skrull a Fantastic Four Villain?
The origin begins with a vengeance:
Super Skrull army was first mentioned in the second issue of The Fantastic Four in 1962. Reed Richards possesses the ability to flex his entire body like rubber, stretching to long lengths. As the captain and founder of the Fantastic Four, he beats the Super Skrulls while also convincing some Skrull invaders to shapeshift into cows. This humiliation was the villain-origin story for the Skrull Empire as they sought vengeance against Reed or Mister Fantastic and his clan.
Kl’rt rose to the occasion to defeat the Fantastic Four. He appeared in the 1963 Fantastic Four #18 as he arrived on Earth for the final battle.
Kl’rt was the ultimate one-alien warriorβ
- Stronger than the THING
- Better flame control than the HUMAN TORCH
- More control over invisibility than INVISIBLE GIRL
- More stretchability than MISTER FANTASTIC
- He had swift shapeshifting abilities and innate Skrull hypnosis powers.
The only hope for the Fantastic Four was Reed’s intellect, which he used to figure out that the Shrull homeworld was sending signals that gave Kl’rt his powers. He managed to block the signal long enough for the rest of the members to defeat Kl’rt.
Is there a Super-Skrull in Secret Invasion?
Now, the Secret Invasion series explores the imminent dangers of Skrulls intruding on the Earth and wiping off humanity.
Here, the main antagonist is the Skrull leader, Gravik. He assembles an army with Skrull council members. He targets a strike on the UN by sending three officers to infiltrate the Royal Navy. This was his way of letting the Earth’s heroes know about his arrival.
He tells his army that they will shapeshift, change faces, and enhance powers to transform into “uniquely programmed weapons of mass destruction,” known as the Super-Skrulls.
This would be the final stage in invading Earth and destroying the human race.
Secret Invasion Episode 4: It’s the ultimate showdown between Gravik and the alliance formed between Nick, Talos, and their soldiers. Talos’s daughter G’iah assists them in getting information against the Super Skrull army to seek revenge for her mother, Soren’s death.
During the fight, Gravik uses Groot’s branch arms as a weapon, implying how intense and dangerous this invasion can be.
