It’s interesting how well-received films and shows of the past are getting adaptations, reboots, and more to continue the story forward. Every production studio is in the race to create a successful IP in any way possible.
From The 70s Show getting a sequel after decades to the Gossip Girl reboot on HBO Max and more, it’s a good time for people who grew up loving these. Now, another one has joined the list- Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. But this time, it’s not a live-action reboot. Instead, it’s an anime.
The Scott Pilgrim anime is titled Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and it will follow the storyline of the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley. A teaser trailer of the anime has been released, which shows that the titular character will have to fight off Ramona Flowers’ 7 toxic exes to win her heart.
The cast of the 2010 film by Edgar Wright is returning to voice the characters in the anime. It will have eight episodes and will release on Netflix on November 17th, 2023. Science SARU studio is animating it.

Scott Pilgrim Anime Trailer
Netflix has finally released an exciting teaser trailer for the Scott Pilgrim anime. The clip showed that the anime had heavily imitated the graphic novels’ art. The trailer showed scenes that might be familiar to people who had read the comics but will be new to the viewers who only watched the 2010 Scott Pilgrim vs. the World film with Michael Cera.
Many scenes in the movie had to be cut or compressed due to a lack of time. But that isn’t the case this time because the anime will have eight episodes. For example, the Roxy and Ramona fight looks different from the one that’s seen in the film. So a lot of the details will be better fleshed out better this time.
Plot
The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World film was released in 2010. It starred Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim and was directed by Edgar Wright. It was an adaptation of a series of graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley. The books focus on the titular guy from Toronto, Ontario, a part-time musician and slacker.
He falls for a mysterious woman, Ramona Flowers, who has recently moved from the USA. Scott has to take on and defeat her seven evil exes over several battles to win her heart. The anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will follow the plot of the original graphic novels. In fact, as seen in the trailer, the art style will closely mimic that of the comics.
However, the ending may get changed. If not of the original comics, then at least of the movie. This is because Bryan Lee O’Malley’s books were not completed when the film went into production. Yet, fans expect the anime to follow the comic closely.
After all, since the anime will have several episodes, there will be no time constraints, and as a result, the villains, fights, storylines, etc., won’t get condensed like it was in the 2010 movie.

The Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime will be animated by Science SARU, an anime-making house. It is executive produced and written by Bryan Lee O’Malley and Ben David Grabinski. Anamanaguchi and Joseph Trapanese will give the music.
