What Happened During the Game of Patriots vs. Dolphins?
New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins immersed in a match as part of the NFL Preseason on September 18, and while the game has been going pretty well, with both sides giving their all, a commotion erupted from the stands.
From what fellow fans have witnessed, Dale has been engaged in a verbal confrontation with a few Dolphins fans during the game. After his emotions got out of hand, he went over to the 300-level of the stadium and engaged in mutual combat with another fan at the end of the fourth quarter.
Following their brawl, a man wearing a Dolphins jersey hit Dale with two consecutive punches in the face. A video has surfaced on the internet, and from the words of Kilmartin, a bystander, here’s what happened:
“He basically grabbed another fan. They started tussling around for a few minutes. At one point, another fan walked over. He punched him … and the man just went out. It was pretty hard to watch. “
“I just saw a movement within that group that really denoted that there was some physical altercation going on and some people trying to break it up, some people trying to — you know — kind of distance themselves away from it,” witness Keith Noonan said.”
Following the violent act, the first responders arrived at the scene and reportedly performed CPR for fifteen minutes before transporting Dale to the Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead before midnight around 11 p.m.
Police and Norfolk County district attorney have officially opened an investigation on the incident and revealed the autopsy results are expected this week, and the cause of death will be known.
Following the death of her husband, Lisa Mooney spoke to media outlets about how the situation got out of control, and she never expected something like this to happen. In her words,
“Numb. I just feel numb. I just can’t even believe this is for real. I just don’t understand why people have to go to that extreme. Why can’t it just be fun? That’s all it’s supposed to be: a fun family event. It takes a lot to get him mad. He has the patience of a saint. I don’t know what happened.”
Dale has been a lifelong Patriots fan and a 30-year season ticket member, and Gillette Stadium also offered their condolences and stated that they would work with local authorities to assist them with the ongoing investigation.
We await further information from the Police regarding the investigation as well as the autopsy results to determine what exactly caused the death of Dale Mooney. For the time being, we can only hope his soul rests in peace.
