The Overwatch mini-series is all set for its Youtube release, finally, after fans of the game had been requesting an anime series or a Netflix series based on the same for years now.
Considering Overwatch’s popularity over the years, amid the growing fanbase worldwide, it’s baffling how Blizzard took so long to invest in an animated series. But nonetheless, it is official that Blizzard will now be releasing an Overwatch anime.
Not only is the anime a delight for Overwatch fans, but it will also provide an opportunity for anyone who hasn’t played the video game to delve into the Overwatch universe.
But now, with the animated series all geared up to premiere next week, Blizzard’s decision to use Youtube for the Overwatch storytelling will be indeed intriguing to explore Overwatch’s vast universe in the form of a mini-series.
Overwatch Anime Release Date
Blizzard Entertainment has made it official that the mini-series spanning three episodes, Part One: Dawn, Part Two: Innocence, and Part Three: Rebirth, will be made available to watch on Youtube from July 6th, 13th, and 20th. This also marks Blizzard’s first attempt at taking its plot further, with it launching the story missions in Overwatch 2 in August.
Additionally, it appears that viewers will witness several sequences from the perspectives of both omnics and the researchers who developed them. The omnic, at the conclusion of the video, probably intends to travel to Nepal to join the Shambali, a group of omnic philosophers.
Overwatch Anime Plot
In the Overwatch narrative, automation of society via the use of omnics and AI led to a state of near-utopia for humans. That went awry when the omnics rose up and started a global war.
Overwatch, a security organization, played a crucial role in fighting off the omnics and protecting the population. However, the association would subsequently disintegrate due to allegations of corruption and internal strife.
After the omnic crisis, Overwatch received additional financing and was transformed into a global peacekeeping force, ushering in the Golden Age, a period of unprecedented wealth. Twenty years after it was founded, though, its power waned, and it was accused of corruption and sedition.
When two of the characters, Reaper and Widowmaker, orchestrate multiple terrorist acts, most notably the murder of the omnic and head of the Shambali tribe, Mondatta, tensions between omnics and humans grow.
Winston decides to recall Overwatch despite knowing the repercussions as he and Tracer continue to repel Reaper and Widowmaker.
The newly released trailer gives viewers a peek at how humans and robots coexisted peacefully before the AI uprising that led to the Omnic Crisis. Reinhardt, Torbjörn, and Ana are three of the video game’s characters, while Mina Liao, an AI researcher, and additional Overwatch founder member, is also included in the mini-series.

Overwatch Anime Trailer
In what seems to be the first Omnic Crisis, the teaser clip features several members of the elder generation of superheroes, including Reinhardt, Torbjörn, and Ana. Dr. Mina Liao, one of the originators of the Omnics, the artificial inhabitants of the Overwatch universe but isn’t a gaming character, is also depicted.
Additionally, a new female omnic figure with incredibly human-like eyes was shown in the teaser, raising the possibility that she is some kind of omnic-human hybrid.
The first episode, called “Genesis – Part One: Dawn,” will center on the first Omnic Crisis, during which Reaper, Reinhardt, and Ana strive to keep humanity alive.
After streaming the first episode, fans can only hope Blizzard shows them some of the Overwatch universe’s current events once they’ve finished the Genesis story.
On July 6th, the first of the three episodes will air. Dawn will have a duration of five minutes and thirteen seconds.
