Harry Potter is one of the world’s biggest, if not the biggest, movie franchises. The saga of eight movies, from Sorcerer’s Stone to The Deathly Hallows Part 2, is considered an iconic and beloved part of almost everyone’s childhood in this era.
The greatness of the Harry Potter movies arises from the fact that people of all ages can watch them and, in fact, be thoroughly entertained by them.
The only critique that hardcore Potterheads had from the movie adaptation of the books is that they need to have all the minute details.
Of course, this could be excused as the movies had to be under a certain runtime, and not all book details could be mentioned.
But now, to tackle this challenge, Warner Bros., on their streaming platform Max (HBO Max Formerly), is coming up with a 10-season series based on all the Harry Potter Books!
Is The New Harry Potter Series Official?
At the Max streaming event, Warner Bros. announced that a new era for Harry Potter lovers is coming. A TV show based on J.K. Rowling’s seven books about the wizard has been announced by the production company.
The most recent responses to the key questions concerning the project were answered at the event.
A few years ago, Max and WarnerMedia (former Parent Co.) began looking out for the possibility of a Harry Potter TV series.
To handle the Potter World, which encompasses theme parks, tours, and the $9.1 billion-grossing cinematic franchise that includes the Harry Potter as well as the Fantastic Beasts books, Warner Bros. appointed Tom Ascheim as president of Kids, Young Adult, and Classics.
As a result, Tom became WarnerMedia’s senior representative in its meetings with J.K Rowling and her agents, and preliminary conversations for a TV series began.
Unfortunately, The unit was dissolved, and Tom left the company after the Discovery acquisition was finished a year ago. However, the Harry Potter IP’s significance increased with the merger.
Discovery is undergoing a high-profile overhaul of its streaming service, even renaming it from HBO Max to just Max. It’s a safe bet that the firm wants Harry Potter’s magical world on the platform as soon as possible.
Is Harry Potter Series Based On Books?
Yes, the new Max Harry Potter series will be based on all seven Harry Potter books.
Many people have argued that Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts books will also be included as the series is said to have 10 seasons. Still, according to sources, the Fantastic Beasts or any books outside of the original seven will not be part of the series.
Though there might be some foreshadowing or past visiting in certain parts of the series, everything will take place in the timeline of the Battle of Hogwarts, following the journey of an 11-year-old Harry Potter.
Each season will be faithful to the novels and introduce Harry Potter and these great experiences to new audiences worldwide.
Harry Potter was previously adapted as an eight-part movie series for the big screen. These movies were massive box office hits, paving the stage for the omnipresent franchise universe that followed. However, like with other book-to-film adaptations, some sequences and characters were cut.
The HBO Max show wishes to lengthen for the series to portray the depth of the novels ultimately.
Is J.K. Rowling Involved in the New Harry Potter TV Series?
The largest barrier to the series’ adaptation for the big screen had been a deal for J.K. Rowling’s participation: The author has creative rights over any exploitation of her work.
The agreement is now finalized with J.K Rowling on board with Max and Discovery!
Executive producers for this new series are Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts. The movie’s creator, David Heyman, is currently in discussions to do the same. Warner Bros. Television and Rowling’s Bronte Film and TV are the producers.
In 2012, Rowling and her literary agency, Neil Blair, established Bronte Film and TV. So to answer the question if J.K. Rowling is involved in the New Harry Potter TV Series, one could say, yes, she definitely is, Not only as the author of the original story and plot but also as a co-producer.
Having Rowling as the co-producer is definitely exciting. What do you think?
Harry Potter Series Leaks & Rumors
Zaslav has often emphasized his concentration on franchises since he assumed leadership of the combined firm, with an exploration of the Harry Potter Intellectual Property being a primary goal.
The producers on both ends are very discrete about the series, and hence there are no major leaks as of writing this article.
But one of the biggest rumors going around is that there will be 10 seasons that will be released in 10 consecutive years, starting from 2025 or 2026.
New Harry Potter Series Cast
As of now, no information is available on the final cast. The producers only confirmed that they would love to bring on a whole new set of actors to play the significant roles, and the chances of seeing the Daniel, Emma, and Rupert trio are relatively lower.
This has taken social media by storm as fans have divided opinions on this subject.
Some people are okay with new actors being in the cast, but most people are in disbelief and say that the “originality and nostalgia” will be lost with this new cast.
I am confused. Who to side with, what are your thoughts on this?
The New Harry Potter Series Release Date
All things being said, the new Harry Potter series is said to be premiered in 2025 or 2026.
