What Is the Plot of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes?
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spinoff manga of the main MHA franchise. It is often considered a prequel to the series as it shows the background of many pro-heroes that we see later in MHA, like All Might and Aizawa.
The manga introduces Koichi Haimawari, a young man with a minor quirk that allows him to travel at the speed of a bike. He is not a licensed hero but likes to help people under the guise of ‘Nice Guy.’
Pop Step, a wannabe idol with a jump quirk, gets caught by a nefarious bunch, and as they threaten her, Koichi feels useless in the situation. In comes Knuckleduster, an unlicensed hero who knocks out the miscreants.
Knuckleduster recruits Koichi as an assistant and informs him that a drug named Trigger is increasing people’s quirks while erasing their common sense. It is their responsibility to find out the users of this drug and stop the violence.
Is the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Manga Completed?
Yes, the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga is completed with 126 chapters. It has received 15 manga volumes. The series ended on May 28, 2022, after a five-year run.
Rest assured, if an anime adaptation of the spinoff does air, it will have plenty of source material to adapt. Two to three seasons can easily be created out of the available chapters.
Tetsuya Sato, an editor of MHA, conceived the manga. Betten Court agreed to be the illustrator, and Horikoshi green-signaled the spinoff. It is written by Hideyuki Furuhashi. The chapter is always approved by Horiskoshi, who gives his own suggestions.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is much darker than MHA as it shows the more crude problems faced by society. It is a prequel, as many incidents that happen during the manga are later referenced in the main series.
[SPOILER ALERT]
What Happens at the End of How is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes?
Chapter 126 concluded My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, and at the end of the manga, Koichi is still a vigilante and is fighting crime in America as he is an outlaw in Japan.
As chapter 126 begins, Aizawa finds Koichi’s unconscious body on the rooftop and hospitalizes him. After recovering, Koichi realizes he is still being called a villain due to his reckless actions. In fact, he is escaping jail time only because there were no casualties in Naruhata.
Afterward, Koichi is in America, fighting crimes like usual, but his image has not recovered. In Japan, he is still considered a criminal. He is an efficient hero, but people love to see the negative aspect of his presence.
Koichi’s inability to speak English makes him more troubled as he creates problems for himself in a foreign land. All in all, his life has only gotten more chaotic, but at least he can still do what he loves the most, which is to save people and be a ‘nice guy.’
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a must-read for MHA fans. Not only will it give you a juicy Aizawa backstory, but it will also show some of the backstory before Deku enters the scene.
