Some people fight for love. Some for honor, and then there’s Peter Riera, a 44-year-old Florida man who fought for egg accuracy and brought a gun to the argument.
It all went down outside Harper’s Pub in Port St. Lucie around 2:30 a.m., when Riera, who, yes, raises chickens, got into a drunken debate with three people about how many eggs a chicken can lay.
According to police, Riera claimed the others were trying to con him, but instead of counting to ten or walking away from a group of unknown drunken men asking how many eggs a chicken can lay, the genius allegedly reached for his .45-caliber Glock and fired four shots.
Master Sergeant Dominick Mesiti told reporters,
“The shooter evidently raises chickens, and the conversation was about how many eggs chickens can lay. The conversation got heated for whatever reason.”
Luckily, no one was hurt, though chaos erupted. One person bolted into the road, two others hid, and Riera himself called 911.
What’s even more confusing is that when cops arrived, everyone was drunk, no one was injured, and somehow two of the victims also got arrested for resisting officers because in Florida, nobody leaves a crime scene without handcuffs, even the bystanders.

Someone…if you have the power, just delete this from the map, or even better, call this Dumbrida from now on.
Anyway, Riera now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and using a firearm while under the influence.
The police summed it up best,
“Arming yourself with a handgun when you’re under the influence is not a good idea. There’s never going to be a good outcome with that.”
I don’t think even Riera’s chickens would’ve picked his side in this debate.
See…pride and alcohol don’t mix well, especially when freaking chickens are involved.
It may be paranoia, but this man decided that proving how many eggs a hen can lay was worth attempting to kill someone and a potential life sentence.
THE WHY: DELUSION
Weirdness Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Five stars because only in Florida can a discussion about chickens escalate into a live demonstration of the survival of the dumbest.
