WWE Summerslam might have concluded on-screen, but Montgomery, Alabama, is still in the WWE spirit. A merciless brawl broke out last day at a riverfront park, leading to multiple people getting injured and arrested.
Punches were thrown, chairs were smashed on heads, and people did not care about who they were hitting. Soon the fighting groups got divided into blacks and whites, causing witnesses to wonder if it was modern-day America or a pre-1963 discriminative society.
Women were thrown into the river, and men rampaged across the dock, making it unsafe for the waiting riverboat to dock. All of this resulted from telling a group of boaters to move their pontoon so that other ships could dock.
It might seem almost comical to you, but that’s the illogical society we live in. Read on to learn more about the senseless brawl.
What Was the Montgomery River Fight About?
The Montgomery River fight occurred at a riverfront park in Alabama when a black riverboat worker tried to clear the dock. He directed a group of white people on an illegally parked pontoon to move it so that the Harriott II Riverboat could dock. However, the group of boaters not only refused to move their pontoon but also climbed aboard the dock and began beating the black worker.
In one of the videos, a shirtless man can be seen running up and punching the dock worker in the face, initiating the violence. After the initial attack, the dock employee fought back but was soon pinned down by multiple white men, and two to three white women tried to join in the crowd.
Pretty soon, the other workers rushed to his help, and the tables were turned on by the group of boaters. One black man was even seen swimming through the river to reach the dock to help his co-workers.
The fight was resolved momentarily, and the group was dispersing; however, another video showed a group of people approaching the boat, starting another fight. This time it was much more ruthless as punches were thrown, people were dragged around by their hair, and chairs were used to beat people up. A white woman from the group of boaters was thrown into the water.
In a third clip, white and black women join the disarray. A black man picks up a chair and begins to beat people with it. He also bashes a white woman’s head with the chair. Thankfully, police approached before things could escalate more.
Have the Montgomery River Fight Assailants been Arrested?
Yes, some of those who were involved in the Montgomery River fight case have been arrested. The police barged in at the right time when a man was seen beating people with a chair. The officials handcuffed several people from the dock. A police statement added that several subjects have been detained, and charges are pending.
According to Mayor Steven L. Reed, “The Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job. Warrants are being signed, and justice will be served.”
Witness’ Account
According to witnesses, the brawl had racial motivations and was influenced by alcohol. The fight began with a group attacking a black dock worker and quickly escalated to a conflict between blacks and whites.
The fight was posted several times on social media, and many people from Harriott II could be seen cheering on the groups. The police listened to the witnesses on the riverboat to apprehend the violent elements.
Leslie Mawhorter, who was aboard the Harriott II, commented, “They just didn’t think the rules applied to them. It was so avoidable. This never had to have happened.” According to him, things quickly spiraled. He described the attitude of the assailants as “You can’t tell us what to do,” and they would have been confrontational no matter who it was.
Christa Owen, another passenger on the Harriott II, stated that she and the others were waiting aboard for several minutes, but the pontoon would not move.
The initially attacked worker was the only one who tried to handle the rowdy bunch. “What was hard is we were all on the boat and witnessing our poor crewman being attacked by these guys, and we couldn’t do anything about it.”
Owen recounted that it was really hard to watch as they wanted to help but could not step into the mindless violence and were forced to be spectators.
It was a completely needless brawl that disrupted the lives of bystanders and led to several arrests. What is your take after knowing the full details?

Everyone has made this about race. The men that jumped the 1 man were very wrong in their actions. People should have broken the fight up and pressed charges. Instead what happened was everyone joined in on the fight and jumped on the woman. It’s disgusting. What’s even more disturbing is that the man with the chair didn’t get a assault charge. 2 women jumped her from behind leaving her on the ground then a man comes and bashes her in the head as hard as he could. This is the world we live in. Every time I think of the lady getting hit it makes me sick to my stomach and even more so that people are defending someone who would do that.
Article states it was racially motivated, but then does not provide proof or even an account of such claims. Also, the white women did not “join in on the group”, they can clearly be seen trying to pull the white guys off the black guy. Do better. Your article sucks.
