While Marvel has been pretty much disappointing for the past two phases, Loki flipped fans’ expectations by delivering an absolutely fantastic experience both visually and story-wise.
It delved deep into the multiverse concept by introducing the time variance authority and He Who Remains, who created the TVA. However, even though only one episode was released, the second season raised the bar relatively high.
On top of adding chaos to the aftermath of the death of He Who Remains, the second season introduced an intriguing character named Ouroboros, played by Everything Everywhere All At Once’s Ke Huy Quan.
So, who is Ouroboros in Marvel? Does he exist in the comics? What role does he play in Loki season 2?
Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros Explained: Who Is He?
The second season of Loki began with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki time slipping into the TVA, which was an impossible phenomenon before the death of He Who Remains.
However, once Sylvie killed He Who Remains, the Sacred Timeline began branching out, forming another endless loop of new timelines. As a bonus, it also started affecting Loki.
Constantly moving to different timelines due to time slipping, including the past, present, and future, the God of Mischief found it hard to understand what was happening.
Once he arrived on the correct timeline, he met Mobius and explained the situation that happened in the Citadel at the End of Time. Fortunately, Mobius has a solution: to introduce Loki to his friend Ouroboros, played by Ke Huy Quan, whom he calls OB.
Ouroboros, like many other TVA agents, was abducted by He Who Remains to serve as the sole employee of the Repairs and Advancement department. He takes care of every repair in the TVA, sometimes even fixing the Sacred Timeline.
As seen in the first episode, he helped Loki with the time slipping and fixed the Sacred Timeline from affecting the TVA with the help of Mobius. Apparently, Ouroboros has been working at the TVA for hundreds of years with not a single visitor to talk to him.
In fact, he also wrote the TVA guide that explains every single tech and rule to the agents working there. In a nutshell, he is basically the sole mechanic and overseer of operations at the TVA.
The Mystery Behind Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros Explained: What Role Would He Play in Loki Season 2?
According to Marvel Comics, Ouroboros is rather an important figure as his character is related to several countries’ mythologies, including Greek, Ancient Egyptian, and Norse.
In the comics, Ouroboros is introduced as an elemental mage who embodies the shape of a snake eating its own tail, which represents a circle and an endless loop.
This could be a depiction of his endless service to the TVA as, time and again, he kept repeating the same work without breaking a sweat. Furthermore, if we dig a little deeper into Norse Mythology, there is a significant meaning behind the name Ouroboros.
The Ouroboros, also known as Jormungandr, is a Serpent that is so long that it can encircle the entire Earth to bite its tail but resides in the sea. In the comics, there were few instances of how that affected the world.
When this Serpent did encircle the world and bite its own tail, nothing would happen. However, the minute it releases its tail, a world-ending catastrophe will hit the Earth.
It is another indication of the importance of Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros character because the minute OB stops working as the repairman of the TVA, several timelines are affected simultaneously.
As of now, it is unclear how Loki season 2 is planning to utilize Ouroboros, but it would be fascinating to see his character playing a major role in finding Jonathan Majors’ Kang Variant, Victor Timely, the main antagonist of the series.
