Very rarely do Western creators collab with anime directors for a project, but it has been happening more often nowadays. The latest team-up will go down in history as Cowboy Bebop’s director is working together with the director of John Wick to create a never-before-seen venture.
Can it get any better than this? Surprisingly, yes. None other than MAPPA has undertaken this project, so rest assured, it will be the next most hyped anime to debut.

Lazarus Anime Plot
Lazarus is set in the year 2052, when the world is experiencing unprecedented peace and prosperity. Sickness and pain are no longer a part of human life due to a drug called Hapuna. The medicine was created by Dr. Skinner, and it is a wonder medicine that appears to have no side effects.
However, Dr. Skinner, a Nobel peace prize winner, disappeared soon after inventing Hapuna. Three years later, humanity is still thriving, but Skinner returns to announce that everyone who has taken the Hapuna will pass away after three years.
A special task force is thus created to save the world and humanity from the doctor’s sinful plan. This group, nicknamed Lazarus, needs to find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out for the people on Earth.
Studio, Cast, Crew
Studio MAPPA is responsible for the animation production of Lazarus. Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, and other classic anime, is directing it. Additionally, the director of the John Wick movies, Chad Stahelski, will design the action sequences.
The anime will also feature a track by saxophonist Kamasi Washington along with Floating Points and Bonobo. The cast members have not been announced yet.
Lazarus Anime Release Date
A release window for Lazarus has not been announced yet. It will most probably debut in 2024, given it has just been announced. We will keep you updated on any new detail.
