With bizarre fan theories, what follows after they are claims, counterclaims, and conjectures that become a topic of debate in no time. One such is the recent theory that some fans can’t get their heads around.
As some fans were eagerly anticipating the TV-series adaptation of the popular MCU comic Secret Invasion, others pointed out the protagonist of the series, Nick Fury’s sexuality, suggesting that he’s, indeed, gay! But what exactly caused fans to draw this theory, you may ask?
Is Nick Fury Gay in Secret Invasion?
Most fan theories debated on Nick Fury being gay, but he didn’t disclose anything about his sexuality either in the comics or in the MCU. While Nick Fury never said he was gay, on the contrary, he never denied the same. Still, Marvel’s Nick Fury was married to a woman named Priscilla Fury and not gay.
Speculations started after a recent Vanity Fair magazine displayed images of Nick Fury in his exclusive look from Secret Invasion; fans spotted him with a ‘mysterious guy’ in a somewhat close position.
In the image, Nick can be seen closely hugging a guy with their eyes closed, and just like that, fans were convinced that there’s more to explore about Nick Fury’s personal life other than his perpetual mission to save the earth. With that, fans quickly judged Nick Fury as another LGBTQ character in MCU.
Although MCU itself has never made it official about Fury’s sexuality, fans of the comic know well about Fury’s intense romances with women across countries; one cant simply misses out on his romantic affair with Laura Brown or him and Captain America fighting over the Contessa Fontaine.
As some fans used these references to justify that Nick Fury is not gay, it is difficult to declare anything for now as it is not new for the storyline to get lost in translation in adaptations.
How Many Episodes Are There in Secret Invasion?
The adaptation of the comic is available to stream online as a mini-series, with six episodes premiering every Wednesday. The first episode, ‘Ressurection,’ that’s now available to watch on the streaming platform Disney Plus has recorded an outstanding viewership, finally putting a full stop to fans’ anticipation.
In the 54-minute-long debut episode, fans witnessed Nick Fury’s comeback to earth after ages in his fight against destroying Skrulls as he teams up with Talos, Everett Ross, and Maria Hill.
Based on the reviews of the first episode, fans were quick to note that director Ali Selim has added a different perspective to the original comic without ruining the sanctity of the storyline.
The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Talos’ daughter, and Olivia Colman as agent Sonya Falsworth among other supporting characters. In the mini-series, Samuel L Jackson portrays the main character, Nick Fury.
