Michael Anthony Strahan, a former NFL defensive end, was selected by the New York Giants in the 1993 NFL Draft’s second round as the 40th pick.
His illustrious career culminated in a Super Bowl victory in his final game in 2007. Following retirement, the seven-time Pro Bowl honoree transitioned into television.
In 2016, he made a permanent move to Good Morning America. However, the public is equally curious about his personal life, particularly his marital status and the number of children he has.
Michael Strahan has had two marriages, both ending in divorce. His first marriage to Wanda Hutchins in 1992 produced two children, Tanita and Michael Anthony Strahan Jr., born in 1991 and 1994. The couple divorced in 1996. His second marriage to Jean Muggli began in 1991 but concluded in divorce in 2006, resulting in twins, Isabella and Sophia, born in 2004. Strahan has been with Kayla Quick since 2015.
Has Michael Strahan Been Married Before?
Michael Strahan has experienced two marriages, both of which ended in divorce.
In 1992, Michael Strahan tied the knot with Wanda Hutchins, whom he had met two years prior in Germany while attending high school.
Hutchins, born in Houston, Texas, shared American roots with Strahan but also boasted German ancestry.
At the time, she held the position of Strahan Global Outreach’s executive director and vice president. It is a nonprofit organization focusing on customer service, home furnishings, and appliances.
The couple welcomed two children during their marriage. However, the strains of matrimony became evident, and both Strahan and Hutchins attributed their marital struggles to having wed at a young age.
In 1996, they decided to part ways and filed for divorce. As part of the settlement, Hutchins received a substantial alimony payment.
Following their divorce, Wanda Hutchins pursued a successful interior designer and decorator career, ultimately founding Wanda Home Designs, a decor and furniture company. Her net worth is about $2 million.
While she has not remarried, Hutchins is a devoted single mother to her children, including another son, Dorian, born in 2001, whose father’s identity remains undisclosed.
Michael Strahan’s second marriage was to Jean Muggli, whom he met at a spa and subsequently wed in 1991.
Muggli, born in Carson, North Dakota, managed a cosmetics store at the time. Their union led to the birth of identical twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia.
However, the marriage encountered turbulence, with Muggli alleging infidelity and abuse on Strahan’s part. In 2006, the couple decided to divorce, resulting in a significant settlement.
Jean Muggli received approximately $15 million in divorce settlements and an additional $18,000 per month in child support.
Their $3.6 million New Jersey mansion was divided between the two, with Muggli selling her share for an additional $1.8 million. This divorce settlement ranked as one of the most expensive in sports history.
Despite the divorce, Jean Muggli gained full custody of her daughters, with Strahan maintaining an active presence in their lives through frequent visits and quality time spent together.
Following his divorce, Michael Strahan embarked on a journey in search of love. He became engaged to Nicole Mitchell, a model and actress previously married to Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy.
However, their seven-year engagement came to an end in 2014, with Mitchell citing Strahan’s infidelity as the cause.
Subsequently, Strahan entered a relationship with Kayla Quick in 2015. However, the couple has largely kept their romance private, with Strahan maintaining discretion when discussing his love life. Quick has made only sporadic public appearances alongside him.
Who Are Michael Strahan’s Children?
Michael Strahan’s journey as a parent encompasses two marriages, four children, and, most recently, a health challenge faced by his daughter, Isabella Strahan.
Strahan’s first marriage was to Wanda Hutchins in 1992, a union that produced two children. His eldest child, Tanita, was born on November 10, 1991, in Germany, followed by the birth of his only son, Michael Anthony Strahan Jr., on September 12, 1994.
As the children of a football legend and a dedicated mother, Tanita and Michael Jr. spent their early years in Germany before returning to Texas at 11.
Following his divorce from Hutchins in 1996, Strahan embarked on a second marriage with Jean Muggli in 1999.
This marriage led to the arrival of twins Isabella and Sophia, born on October 28, 2004. The family dynamic shifted with the twins growing up between North Dakota and North Carolina, where their mother resided after the couple’s tumultuous divorce in 2006.
Despite the geographical separation of the four siblings, Strahan emphasized that they had grown remarkably close over time.
He recognized the unbreakable bond that exists among brothers and sisters, irrespective of different mothers.
However, in recent times, the Strahan family faced a significant health challenge when Isabella Strahan was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor originating in the cerebellum.
Isabella, a college student, received her diagnosis in late October and underwent emergency surgery at Cedars-Sinai on October 27, just a day before her 19th birthday.
In a heartfelt “Good Morning America” segment, Isabella and her father discussed her health journey.
Isabella expressed optimism and readiness to begin chemotherapy at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Durham, North Carolina. She said (via People magazine):
“I’m ready for it to start and be one day closer to being over. …. I’m very excited for this whole process to wrap. But you just have to keep living every day, I think, through the whole thing.”
Michael Strahan displayed his unwavering support and love for his daughter, saying:
“I literally think that, in a lot of ways, I’m the luckiest man in the world, because I’ve got an amazing daughter.”
