“Chicago Fire” fans are on the edge of their seats, wondering if Kelly Severide, portrayed by Taylor Kinney, is about to bid farewell to the show once again.

Recent events in the series have left viewers questioning whether Severide’s character is set to exit. So, it’s time to dive into the details and uncover the truth behind these rumors.

Kelly Severide is leaving Chicago Fire. In season 12, episode 3, titled “Trapped,” Severide had to decide between going to a remote arson case in Tucson, Arizona, or staying with Stella Kidd and saving their marriage. After a heartfelt conversation with his wife and gaining her approval, he seeks support from colleague Joe Cruz, who ultimately backs his decision.

In the latest episode of “Chicago Fire,” Season 12, Episode 3, titled “Trapped,” we witness a pivotal moment in Kelly Severide’s journey.

The Office of Fire Investigation (OFI) presents Severide with an enticing opportunity—an out-of-state arson case in Tucson, Arizona.

The OFI’s Captain, Tom Van Meter, personally requests Severide’s involvement, recognizing his talent and dedication.

Severide, torn between his passion for arson investigation and the strain it puts on his marriage with Stella Kidd, grapples with the decision. After a heart-to-heart conversation with Stella, he assures her he won’t go if she’s uncomfortable with it.

Stella, having had her own reservations, ultimately gives her blessing, valuing Severide’s freedom and aspirations. But she clarifies that he has her support as long as he returns promptly.

Additionally, Severide seeks approval from his colleague Joe Cruz, who has his own history of feeling abandoned by Severide.

Cruz, considering a promotion to Lieutenant elsewhere, decides to support Severide and withdraws his name from the Lieutenant exam.

So, the answer to the burning question is yes- Kelly Severide is taking on the Tucson case.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Kelly Severide temporarily absent from the series.

In January 2023, Taylor Kinney took a leave of absence from “Chicago Fire” to address a personal matter. During this time, the show incorporated Severide’s absence into the storyline, sending his character off on an arson investigation training program.

In the Season 11 finale, Severide’s participation in the program ended. Still, he embarked on an ATF investigation without informing Kidd, leaving her worried and determined to find him.
