The Gaza genocide continues, marking a month of massacre on November 7, 2023. The discourse has moved way past the “whose side are you on?” to “Will you choose humanity?”
Amidst the political game of finding the right pawn for their agendas, the world of ordinary humans is standing in solidarity with Gaza.
Millions of people are on the streets across the world to condemn the blatant genocide as the United Nations has not yet succeeded in saving innocent lives, where the death toll has touched over 9770 people, including 4008 children.
Meanwhile, a few reports have surfaced of the inhumane atrocities by the Hamas militant group on October 7, 2023, shedding light away from the Palestinian plight.
War is between two nations, battle is between countering opinions, and the cost of it is paid by 2 million lives on a small strip.
Among these differing opinions, a daughter and a father are at loggerheads.
On October 29, 2023, Angelina Jolie posted her support for a ceasefire in Gaza on her Instagram. According to her statement, Jolie maintains a neutral stance by condemning the Hamas attacks on Israel and simultaneously urges people to provide aid for the people of Gaza.
However, one person has been quite vocal in criticizing Jolie for “anti-Israel” opinions. And shockingly enough, it’s none other than her father, Jon Voight. At first, netizens believed that his radical beliefs stemmed from his Jewish roots. But as it turns out, Jon Voight is not Jewish but is of German-Slovakian descent.
Why Did Angelina Jolie’s Father Slam Her for Anti-Israel Stance?
Angelina Jolie, the Oscar-winning actress, a philanthropist, and a propagator of peace, posted on Instagram her stance on the ongoing Gaza genocide.
The statement bases both sides of the war. And when one is on both sides, neither supports that standpoint. Judging by the comments under her post, it is safe to say that people are wary of celebrity diplomacy. People want a clear opinion and a defined perspective. Otherwise, they are not buying it.
However, no one would have ever imagined that Jolie’s own father would be her biggest critic and would even go as far as to say that he is “disappointed in her anti-Israel sentiment.”
Unlike Jolie, Voight stands firm in his unequivocal stance, stating that the Israelis are in greater danger with the growing terrorism. He said–
“The issue here is the destruction of the history of God’s land, the Holy Land, the land of the Jews. The Israeli army has to protect the Land of Israel and its people – this is a war. It will not be as the Left thinks it will be; it will not be cultural.”
In a post captioned “Truth and lies,” the Oscar-winner Jon Voight sits before the American flag as he expresses his disappointment in his daughter’s statement, stating his prerogative on the ongoing war–
“Israel was attacked through inhumane terrorism, innocent children, mothers, fathers, and grandparents. And you, fools, say that Israel is the problem? You need to look at yourselves and ask: ‘Who am I? What am I?”
He then concludes the video, addressing the people to “recognize that Hamas” was “destroying their own people, not Israel.”
Is Jon Voight Really Jewish?
Voight’s staggering statement led people to believe that he must be of Jewish descent for his right-leaning outlook and overlooking the human rights violation on the other side.
However, upon further inspection, it is confirmed that the “Midnight Cowboy” actor Jon Voight, born on December 29, 1938, comes from a lineage of mixed ethics background. His father, Elmer Samuel Voight, has Slovakian roots, whereas his mother, Barbara Agnes, has German ancestry. Voight has no association with being Jewish except for his solidarity with the Israelis.
Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie posted another post depicting the aftermath of airstrikes on Gaza, with a caption stating–
“This is the deliberate bombing of a trapped population who have nowhere to flee. Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children. Whole families are being murdered. While the world watches and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians – children, women, families – are being collectively punished and dehumanized, all while being deprived of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid against international law. By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties, world leaders are complicit in these crimes.”
As you can observe, this time, Jolie articulates a clear stance on the atrocities on Palestinian civilians, who have no association with the war but are the “collateral damage” pawns. Jolie highlights the dehumanization of Palestine and openly voices her disdain for the incompetency of world leaders to impose an immediate ceasefire.
Wonder what Mr. Voight has to say about this now? Besides the various awkward dinner-table conversations around the world, we hope that the people of Gaza at least get some relief, food, water, and the right to live.
