Johnny Somali is a controversial Kick streamer who became famous through initiating unauthorized streams in Japan as well as racial comments against the residents.
While he was arrested in September and again this month, a rumor recently began spreading on social media that the streamer was sentenced to five years in prison. Is it true?
No. Johnny Somali has not been sentenced to five years in prison as of now, and there are no verified sources concerning the whisper. As a matter of fact, Johnny was detained on October 22 in Japan for his second charge. Right now, he isn’t even prosecuted, and it will take some time before he is presented in front of the jury.
Why Was Johnny Somali Arrested?
With the modern world giving full freedom to attention seekers through controversial means, several streamers have found a way to become famous, and Johnny Somali is no exception.
Johnny Somali, also known as Ramsey Khalid Ismael, is a popular streamer who was banned from Twitch and moved onto Kick and began creating controversial videos in Japan.
In the past couple of months, he was seen spreading racial rants against Japanese residents and harassing women on the streets and was shortly detained by the Osaka police.
While he was initially arrested on September 21, he was once again detained by the Osaka police on October 22 for doing the same thing, following which rumors began circulating in social media that he was sentenced to prison for five years.
Is Johnny Somali Sentenced to Five Years in Jail?
Soon after learning that the Kick streamer was arrested, it spread across various social media platforms, and a rumor began circulating that Somali was sentenced to five years in jail, but this is not true.
No verified sources claim the rumor to be true, but there are a few instances where netizens on X and Reddit testify that the rumor is fake news.
Apparently, the streamer was arrested on Sunday for obstructing various business operations by livestreaming without authorization. While there is no news of Somali’s current situation, people claim that he has not been sentenced to prison yet.
Just as he was detained for 23 days for his prior arrest, he is currently in his second charge, waiting for prosecution, meaning there is still a lot of time before his verdict arrives from the jury.
According to a Reddit user named GajinChef, here’s what awaits next for Johnny Somali:
“It’s fake, and an Aussie clickbait news site has no knowledge of the inner workings of the Japanese judicial system. He will most likely get a suspended sentence and be held on multiple consecutive 28 days per charge until his visa runs out and he overstays. Then they will deport and ban him from reentry for x number of years. This is the most likely end to his story in Japan.”
Meanwhile, other people from different subreddits also confirmed that Johnny Somali hadn’t been arrested yet but was simply detained, waiting for the decision of Japanese officials.
On the other hand, people also took to X and verified the credibility of the rumor being fake news. Here are a few tweets that back our claim regarding Johnny Somali’s rumor:
So, what do you think about Johnny Somali’s rumor of being sentenced to prison? Do you believe he should be?
