James Gunn, the mastermind behind both Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming DC Universe, has dropped some tantalizing hints that have fans buzzing.
When asked about casting his former Guardians stars in DC roles, Gunn replied, “Well that would be a spoiler wouldn’t it?”
Talk about a tease!
But the big question is: Will he actually do it?
Yes, it looks like some Guardians of the Galaxy stars might join the DC Universe. James Gunn has hinted that he’s been in talks with a few of his Marvel actors about possible roles in upcoming DC projects. Both Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff have expressed interest in reuniting with Gunn, and Gunn himself hasn’t shut down the idea.
Gunn’s Guardians Heading to DC
James Gunn has a habit of keeping fans on their toes, and his recent social media activity has done just that.
When a fan asked him on Threads if any of his Guardians cast might jump over to DC, Gunn responded with a playful,
“Well that would be a spoiler wouldn’t it?”
That little tease has sent speculation into overdrive. Is he just messing with us, or does he have something up his sleeve?
Chris Pratt, who starred as Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) under Gunn’s direction in Guardians of the Galaxy, was spotted visiting Gunn on the set of Superman: Legacy in June.
When asked if he’d be interested in joining the DC Universe, Pratt didn’t hold back his excitement. “Yes, of course,” he said.
“If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it.” He even mentioned that he feels “blessed” to be considered for anything by Gunn, leaving the door wide open for a DC debut.
We personally want Chris Pratt to be Booster Gold.
Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians, is also in talks with Gunn about a specific character in the DC Universe, although she’s keeping the details under wraps. “I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that,” she said at a Comic Con event in June.
Gunn has already brought his brother, Sean Gunn, into the DC fold, casting him as Maxwell Lord. This move only fuels the fire that more of Gunn’s Marvel crew could be next in line.
Fans are already speculating about which characters these actors could play. Some are dreaming of Dave Bautista as the DC villain Darkseid, given his imposing presence and Gunn’s familiarity with his work.
So why is this such a big deal?
Well, Gunn’s not just any director. He’s the guy who turned a talking raccoon and a sentient tree into household names. His unique blend of humor, heart, and spectacle breathed new life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, he’s poised to do the same for DC.
With Superman: Legacy wrapped and set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, Gunn’s vision for the DCU is starting to take shape. And if his past work is any indication, we’re in for one hell of a ride.
What do you think? Could Pratt or Klementieff bring something new to the DC Universe? Which characters would you love to see them play?
Averagebeing’s Take: James Gunn’s playful response is classic him—he’s having fun with us, but there’s probably more to it. Given his close ties with the Guardians cast and his new power at DC, it wouldn’t be shocking to see some familiar faces in the new DC Universe. After all, great actors are great actors, no matter what universe they’re in.
