It’s not surprising to see weird and yet viral food products on the internet. Entire channels are dedicated to making the most bizarre and revolting food possible.
While it’s easy to decode most claims of whether a product is genuine, some take our minds for a spin. For example, a recent video claims Heinz is selling clear tomato ketchup.
But is it true?
No, Heinz isn’t selling clear tomato ketchup. In the viral TikTok video shared on Twitter/ X by @messedupfoods, a man picks up a clear ketchup bottle from an aisle where only red ketchup bottles are present. The lack of multiple clear ketchup bottles confirms that the product is fake.
Is Heinz Actually Selling Clear Tomato Ketchup?
Heinz is the most popular ketchup brand. Their name is synonymous with tomato ketchup in the world. Generally, the company doesn’t put out wild combinations of ketchup, except for special occasions like Halloween.
If you head to a supermarket, you will reliably find their red tomato ketchup stacked on the aisles most of the year. However, a bizarre claim states they also sell clear tomato ketchup.
X/ Twitter user @messedupfoods first brought the clear ketchup claim into people’s timelines. In the clip, a man picks up the clear tomato ketchup of Heinz from the aisle of a grocery store.
Right away, the bottle looks different. Instead of the red tomato logo, there’s a gray one on it. A clear gel oozes out when the man opens and squeezes the bottle instead of ketchup. He then says to his viewers:
“A lot of you just don’t have the balls to eat no clear tomato ketchup. We’re just gonna leave it right there. Ain’t no need to argue. You want some or not, mother**ker?”
Many people watching the video thought that the clear tomato ketchup from Heinz was natural. If you thought so too, you are going to be disappointed.
It’s a fake product and not natural. There’s no mention of anything as such on Heinz’s website. Also, there’s no advertisement for any clear ketchup.
Moreover, even in the video, there doesn’t seem to be a Heinz Clear Tomato Ketchup line in the grocery store he picked the product from. It looks like it was selected from an aisle containing the regular red ketchup.
So, it was the only bottle of its kind there. As such, it’s easy to deduce that it’s fake. It looks like the creator created this bizarre food product to go viral; his plans have clearly worked.
After all, the tweet has been viewed more than 1 million times, and the viral video has garnered over 30 million views across various social media platforms.
While some people believed the fake product was genuine, others didn’t. Many thought it looked like an industrial-sized hand sanitizer, jelly, or vaseline. Thankfully, we don’t have to debate with ourselves about purchasing it because it doesn’t exist.
Also, some things just feel wrong. Ketchup should always be red.
What do you think of the trend of making up fake food products for views? Would you have purchased the clear tomato ketchup if Heinz actually made it? Or does it look like a hand sanitizer to you as well?
