Baby Yoda, the biggest selling point of The Mandalorian, has bowled people over with his overwhelming cuteness. This cute creature belonging to the same species as Master Yoda is actually named Grogu, but fans are just not ready to call it by its real name.
Just like the species of Yoda is surrounded by mystery, so is Baby Yoda’s gender. In this world where gender identity plays a strong role in society, people are curious to know if Baby Yoda is male, female, or anything else.
Even now, I realize that we know so little about Grogu. Yes, the fandom has been using male pronouns to refer to it, but it’s time we dig out the truth.
Is Baby Yoda Boy or a Girl?
It was only in episode three of The Mandalorian that it was revealed the 50-year-old Baby Yoda is a boy. The answer was featured in a line spoken by Doctor Pershing. The Dr who is seeking Baby Yoda to extract its midichlorians refers to it as ‘him.’
This is the first confirmation we have found about the child’s gender, and I hope the doctor knew that much, at least. Even later, throughout the series, the baby is referred to as ‘he.’
Is Baby Yoda Related to Grand Master Yoda?
People who have not yet watched The Mandalorian seem to have a common misconception about Baby Yoda. They believe Baby Yoda or Grogu is either related to Master Yoda or is Yoda’s childhood form. Both these beliefs are not true, as Grogu is not related to Master Yoda at all.
The only relation between Yoa and Grogu is that they come from the same species. Grogu is not Yoda, as proved by their different names and the stark difference in their timelines.
Many fans have theorized that Baby Yoda might be related to Yaddle, a minor character who has not been entertained much, but it is definitely a possibility.
The Jedi Grand Master Died at the age of 900 in the “Return of the Jedi.” The Mandalorian takes place years after the original Star Wars movies, so there is no way that Grogu is Yoda’s child.
We are yet to know details about Yoda’s species and hope that season 4 of The Mandalorian reveals more about Baby Yoda’s background. Considering how many people have subscribed to Disney+ just for this child, I am sure that the upcoming installment will be just as popular.
