Fans have waited very long for Five Nights at Freddy’s movie since the announcement for the film initially came in 2015, but it was only released after eight years.

With FNAF finally achieving success at the box office, fans are hoping there will be more sequels in the franchise, hopefully adapted from the video games. So, how many FNAF movies will be released?

In a YouTube interview with WeeklyMTG, Matthew Lillard, one of the film’s actors, revealed that Blumhouse had planned Five Nights at Freddy’s as a trilogy, meaning there will be two more films in the franchise with the first film starting its production in January 2024.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: How Many Movies Will the Franchise Produce?

Five Nights at Freddy’s, following the film’s success, fans of both horror films and the original video games were surprised by how well it was made, even though there were a few negative reviews from critics.

With the film living up to fans’ expectations, they are expecting a sequel to be made, especially knowing that there is plenty of source material to adapt.

Thankfully, Matthew Lillard, one of the main actors in Five Nights at Freddy’s film, who played William Afton, unveiled in a YouTube interview with WeeklyMTG that he has signed up for two more films in the franchise.

In addition, sources reveal that the second film, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, is already in the works at Blumhouse, with plans for the third one in discussion among the creators.

While Matthew Lillard didn’t reveal much about the trilogy, it was more of a slipped-up information while praising Blumhouse, which he unintentionally revealed as not a single film and will potentially emerge as a long-running franchise.

Now that we have confirmed the source of the sequels, the next step is to expect the story they will feature in the following installments. In fact, there were several hints in the first movie that give away so much for the subsequent films.

During the end credits scene of the FNAF movie, an eerie voice reveals a phrase that spells “come find me,” hinting at Mike’s search for his brother, Garrett, and how this reveal could finally lead him to a standard clue.

The second movie could use this as a base and combine that with the song played at the conclusion, “My Grandfather Clock,” you have a faithful adaptation in the form of an antagonist: the Puppet.

While it is too soon to speculate about the third film, there were also other hints in the first film pointing at the second film, reassuring fans even before the announcement.

MatPat reveals the script for the mid-credit scene in ‘FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S’ originally featured an F-bomb by CoryxKenshin!

For example, the Balloon Boy drawings on the walls, which served as jump scares, are a great way to chase after the mystery of Garrett, as well as the circus doll, which was a significant easter egg to the games.

When animatronics invite Abby to the pizzeria in order to turn her into one of them, we see a lifeless animatronic that fans of video games will recognize as the Circus Baby, one of William Afton’s terrifying creations.

As of now, we can only wait for more details regarding the plot of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, but it is almost official that the franchise will be a trilogy.

So, what do you think about the trilogy? Do you think it would be enough to adapt the entirety of the video games?
