Jimmy Buffett, best known for his hits Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise, has passed away at the age of 76. He was a singer, songwriter, author, sailor, and entrepreneur whose roguish brand of island escapism made him something of a latter-day folk hero.
His chart-topping tracks also served as the inspiration and theme for his future restaurant chains and hotels.
The announcement of his death was made in a statement on his website and social media accounts. “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many,” said the statement.
The official cause of the death was not revealed. Apparently, he had also canceled shows due to health issues, and his death rocked the world. However, sources with direct access confirmed that Jimmy was diagnosed with Merkel cell skin cancer 4 years ago, which turned into lymphoma.
Cause Of Jimmy Buffett’s Death
The two-time Grammy nominee and recipient of numerous Country Music Awards, Jimmy Buffett established his reputation by touring his folk-country tunes across the United States during the 1970s.

He died because of Merkel cell skin cancer, which he had been diagnosed with four years ago. Merkel cell carcinoma is a rare, aggressive skin cancer that often begins as red, shiny nodules on the face, hands, and neck.
Even though he was not physically fit, he continued to perform during his cancer treatments, per the obituary. The last show of Jimmy Buffett took place in July during a surprise appearance in Rhode Island.

Unfortunately, the cause of the “Mayor of Margaritaville” was Merkel cell carcinoma, a very rare skin cancer lymphoma. He secretly battled cancer for around four years. “He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively,” told the outlet about the death of Jimmy Buffett.
The Margaritaville singer started receiving hospice care a week before he passed away, and his fight with cancer ultimately caused him to pass away too soon.
