However, the video’s authenticity has been questioned on multiple occasions, as recently, there was viral news that the Logitech controller of the submersible had survived. Is the MythBusters Diving Suit Viral Video Real?
Yes, the MythBusters meat diving suit video is real, and it belongs to season 7, episode 19 of the series, and is titled ‘Dumpster Diving.’ The episode features Tory Belleci, Grant Imahara, and Jessi Combs, who demonstrate what happens when a body is put underwater at great depths.
In the experiment, a human-shaped body was created out of pig bones, muscles, fat, skin, and gut. They were arranged to resemble a human structure and put in a diving suit with a helmet.
The structure was then lowered 300 feet underwater, and the suit was depressurized. In the span of 30 seconds, the suit collapses into itself, blood rushes to the helmet, and the body becomes mincemeat, literally.
You can see the onlookers of the experiment really joyous with the result, but the video might make sensitive people feel queasy due to the graphic content.
Does the MythBusters Correctly Replicate How Titan Passengers Died?
No, the MythBusters experiment did not replicate how the passengers of the Titan submersible died in an implosion. To begin with, the five crew members died in an implosion, not from air pressure.
The implosion would have happened in microseconds, crushing the crew inside. Everything would have occurred faster than the people inside could even register what was happening or even feel pain.
Secondly, the experiment was conducted only 300 feet underwater, not 13000 feet, where the Titanic rests. It is assumed that the submersible imploded at 12500 feet depth, so the pressure is far more frightening, and death would be swifter and deadlier, giving no time to react at all.
Last but not least, the body used in the experiment was assembled and thus cannot aptly show what happens to a human body at that depth.
When the MythBusters video first went viral, a lot of comments stated that it was insensitive to bring it up at a time when five people had been declared dead.
Despite the inappropriate situation, the video has gone viral as it helped many people understand how little pressure the human body can actually handle.
