Aaron Rodgers’ debut match with the Jets began on a bitter note as the quarterback got carried off the field within five minutes of the game.
What began with thousands of fans cheering to witness a legendary match ended with one question echoing in the minds of everyone: Will Aaron Rodgers recover?
After months of training, hype, and hopefulness, the players’ dreams were thrown and crushed ruthlessly, and it proved to be the unluckiest day of his life. So let’s learn more about Rodger’s injury and if he has a chance to return.
Did Aaron Rodgers Get Injured?
Yes, Aaron Rodgers received an injury on his left leg when he was run into by Buffalo’s defensive, Leonard Floyd. After the physical altercation, he fell on his left leg, sustaining an injury in the process. An MRI revealed that Rodgers has a torn Achilles tendon.
To explain the situation, Aaron was being dragged down by Leonard, and the back of his left leg got tangled beneath him. Even when he sat upright, it remained stretched out.
He briefly got to his feet but sat back down and was then carried off from the field. The medical staff of the team examined Rodgers on the sidelines before the headed to the locker room. He was seen wearing a walking boot on his left foot, but X-rays came back negative. Aaron did not return to the match after the incident.
The worst fear of the fans came true when head coach Robert Saleh commented,
“Prayers tonight, it’s not good.”
The player was concerned with his Achilles, and an MRI would confirm the nature of the injury. The MRI that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday confirmed the season-ending injury.
Moving forward, Zach Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the Jets. The Jets reverted to running the ball and playing stout defense. Zach is currently the only healthy quarterback on the 53-player roster.
Someone else is bound to be brought in, but finding a starting-caliber quarterback at this point in the season might be very hard. While the Jets did win the match 22-16, the future is currently uncertain for the Jets.
Rodgers will turn 40 this December, and a torn Achilles tendon can be a career-ending injury as well. After Aaron recovers, he might just decide to retire. However, that decision is months away, and the Jets regrouping is the problem.
