Why is everyone talking about the jet ski-riding dog in Florida?

So, I just saw a video of a golden retriever riding a jet ski in Florida, and honestly, it was everything you’d expect and more.

Yes, you read that right—a dog.

On a jet ski.

In Fort Lauderdale.

Looking like the poster child for “living your best life.”

It all went down off the coast, where a dog was perched like a little sea king atop a jet ski and was seen riding it. The pooch, sporting a bright yellow life jacket, sat there with a regal calmness that made me question my own posture and purpose in life.

A woman named Grace Gauvreau captured the now-viral video while enjoying dinner with her boyfriend. She glanced over to the marina, and what did she see?

A literal golden retriever calmly riding on a jet ski like it was his everyday commute. Grace did what any normal human would do—she filmed it, posted it online, and unleashed the internet’s love/hate/laugh machine.

A golden retriever was caught on camera riding a jet ski in a river off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The dog was seen wearing a yellow life jacket while it sat comfortably on the jet ski while its owner used a jetpack to pull it. pic.twitter.com/lWXMe9J8FW

The video exploded on TikTok through @ABC7news, and the comment section did not disappoint. “God forbid a Golden Retriever try and catch a vibe on a Ski Doo,” wrote one user.

Another person declared, “My dog just sent me this,” clearly channeling the envy of pet owners everywhere.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…this seems adorable, but is it safe?

That question split the internet into two very passionate camps.

On one side, we had the joy-seekers, who saw a chill dog living his best life with a responsible owner who clearly took precautions (hello, life vest).

On the other hand, people waving red flags and shouting “animal abuse!” because a dog riding solo on a jet ski, no matter how fabulous, does raise a few eyebrows.

This brings us to the beautiful mess that is Florida. Where else could something this chaotic-neutral happen?

A state where dogs ride jet skis, gators visit convenience stores, and every story sounds like a Mad Libs experiment gone rogue.

So…From the owner’s perspective, it’s fun, bonding, and surely engineered with safety in mind. From the critics’ side, it looks reckless, unnecessary, and risky for the dog’s well-being.

From where I’m sitting with feet on dry land and sanity intact, it’s just another day where humans blur the line between pet companionship and social media spectacle.

It’s unclear if they love being pulled behind a jetpack at high speed through a river, but dogs do love adventure…

Here’s an observation: If you look at the video closely, the dog wasn’t exactly “driving.” Turns out, the jet ski was powering the guy’s jetpack in front of it, and the dog was just along for the ride. Look at it again, the dog steers in one direction and the ski goes to another.

So while the retriever looked like he was manning the vessel, it was more of a scenic cruise than an actual piloting situation. Still, he looked more composed than most people on a banana boat.

If there’s a sane solution, maybe just keep them close when they’re on a vehicle that requires a boating license. I mean, it’s all fun and games until something happens.

Well, I write daily (mostly the weird stuff I find interesting). If you like this whole no-nonsense approach, feel free to bookmark and come back tomorrow, or continue reading other stories to make up your mind.

See ya, internet friend.
