Being a celebrity comes with a tonne of perks. There’s fame, financial gains, and everyday opportunities that many ordinary people don’t get.
However, there are some drawbacks, too. There are constant rumors and speculations about your personal and professional life.
These can serve to ignite heated debates among fans. Or, in extreme cases, they can frighten people like the current news of Lizzo’s death is doing.
So, is it true- Has Lizzo passed away?
At the time of writing in 2023, Lizzo is alive. The news circulating about her death is fake and is a prank. Sadly, Lizzo isn’t the only celebrity to get pranked by death hoax rumors. Eminem, Khaby Lame, Mark Ruffalo, and many more also had to struggle with such rumors.
Is Lizzo Dead?
Lizzo has been trending recently, with multiple accounts on Twitter/ X claiming that she has passed away. Her fans are confused and emotionally distressed due to this.
But these rumors are fake. Lizzo is alive. She has been the victim of a death hoax that has been targeting celebrities for a long time.
Recently, celebrities like Eminem and Khaby Lame have fallen prey to it. Sadly, this isn’t the first time the singer has become the target of such heinous rumors.
In August 2023, a news publication called Channel 45 News published that she had passed away at the age of 31 due to a heart attack. It read:
“[Lizzo] died of a heart attack in her sleep doctors say that she had a problem in her bones for a lack of calcium and they gave her pills to kill the pain and they say that’s what caused the heart attack. In love and memory of are beloved Lizzo may she rest in peace.”
When people began taking this news seriously, the online site said it was just a prank, and the report was false.
But why do people spread fake rumors that cause extreme emotional distress to others? Some think that Lizzo’s death hoax sprang out of the currently ongoing JoCat controversy, where the YouTuber was getting doxxed for setting his video to a Lizzo song.
So, many think that his fans decided to spread fake rumors about Lizzo’s death as payback. However, others believe that this phony rumor was spread cause, for many, it’s fun to prank others.
But others do it to drive more likes and shares to their sites. Many fanbases have urged social media sites to bring in better verification systems so that pranksters can’t play with fans’ emotions anymore.
Twitter/ X’s Community Notes feature has helped curb the widespread disinformation regarding celebrities on their platform. However, many other significant sites don’t have any features that resemble Community Notes.
As such, these issues continue to fester.
Overall, Lizzo fans don’t need to worry. At the time of writing, Lizzo is alive and well going into the new year of 2024.
