Jujutsu Kaisen is going pretty hard, both with the anime and manga. While MAPPA is killing its animation with spectacular visuals, Gege Akutami is killing the characters in the manga.
Thus far, the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen anime has been exhilarating, with many epic fights taking place between the sorcerers and the cursed users.
However, there was a significant shift in the storyline in the fifteenth episode, which involved the brutal death of a grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer. So, does Nanami die in Jujutsu Kaisen?
During the battle at Shibuya Station, Nanami, Maki, and Naobito face the Special Grade Cursed Spirit, Dagon. When he activates his Domain Expansion, Horizon of the Captivating Skanda, Nanami is gravely injured and killed by Jogo’s flames.
Did Jogo Kill Nanami?
Just a couple of episodes ago, Nanami was toying with cursed users, especially his fight with Haruta, which felt so satisfying to many viewers. However, the happiness didn’t last once the anime released the 15th episode of season 2.
Following Jujutsu Kaisen episode 14, in which Mei Mei and Ui Ui are fighting a disease curse, Nanami joins Naobito and Maki to deal with the cursed spirits, but things take a weird turn in the next episode.
With the appearance of Dagon, another powerful cursed user, the trio loses edge in the fight. Dagon activates his Domain Expansion, Horizon of the Captivating Skanda, which has a can’t-miss attack ability.
With Nanami, Naobito, and Maki injured, the fight seems completely one-sided, but with their teamwork, they manage to kill Dagon in the end, leaving them almost exhausted and defenseless.
Just in time, Jogo arrives on the scene and learns about Dagon’s death. To avenge his dear friend, Jogo burns everyone to a crisp, including Nanami, whom he makes the priority in attacking as he’s the most dangerous.
So, in a sense, Jogo pretty much killed Nanami as there is no way to recover from such a lethal wound since Nanami has no abilities such as reverse cursed technique.
What Is the Fate of Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Since we haven’t seen him perish entirely in the fifteenth episode, it is natural for fans to cling to some kind of hope, especially when Itadori is on his way to help them.
However, this is Jujutsu Kaisen we’re talking about, where even the main characters are not spared from the writer. So, it is highly likely that Nanami will be killed for real. After all, he finished his purpose of fighting till the end.
On the other hand, he was already lethally wounded by Dagon’s domain, and Jogo’s attack is more of a final blow unless there is something we’re missing.
If you want to avoid spoilers from the manga, make sure you stop reading from here. So, in the manga, the fate of Nanami is pretty much decided, as the Shibuya Incident was a thing of the past.
Following Jogo’s fierce attack, Nanami stays on his final breath, but before someone can save him, Mahito arrives on the scene and uses his Soul Transfiguration technique to deal the decisive blow and end his life.
Unfortunately, Itadori arrives after Nanami’s lifeless body explodes into chunks of meat by Mahito’s attack. We don’t want to spoil more than this, but it is likely to be adapted in the next episode, and we will also see an epic battle between Itadori and Mahito.
Nanami’s death is not the first of the Shibuya Incident Arc, but it definitely won’t be the last as well. So, if you’re expecting something good to happen, brace for the impact because there is nothing but tragedy waiting at the end of the second season.
So, what do you think about episode 15? Did you expect Nanami to be killed so easily?
