On July 5, 2023, MediaMass shared fabricated death rumors of Jennifer Aniston, sourcing from a Facebook account named “R.I.P. Jennifer Aniston”. However, Aniston’s representatives denied the rumors calling it a “hoax” and clarified that the actress was fit and healthy. The Sun also verified that the post made by the media outlet was fake. Following these events, the post was deleted.
Debunking Rumors Around Jennifer Aniston’s Dead
Jennifer Aniston is an American actress, producer, and businesswoman who gained worldwide fame for her portrayal of Rachel Green on the television sitcom “Friends.” She was born on February 11, 1969, in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, California, USA, to a celebrity father, John Aniston.
Throughout her life, she was featured in various movies including, “Marley & Me,” “The Break-Up,” “The Good Girl,” “Horrible Bosses,” and more. However, her breakthrough role came in 1994 when she was cast as Rachel Green on “Friends.” She also received awards for this role, including an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
While the actress was busy focusing on her health and working, a few rumors started circulating on 5 July 2023. MediaMass scripted a fake rumor regarding the demise of the celebrity while crediting a Facebook page named “R.I.P. Jennifer Aniston”.
The caption of the fabricated post stated,
“At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (July 05, 2023), our beloved actress Jennifer Aniston passed away. Jennifer Aniston was born on February 11, 1969, in Los Angeles. She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”
Soon enough, the rumors were perceived by thousands of viewers, who further concluded that it was a death hoax. Meanwhile, The Sun also reported that the post made by the news outlet was fake. The news tabloid also pointed out the loophole in the news as two different dates were mentioned.
Moreover, the representatives of Jennifer must have judged the seriousness of the situation. They further clarified that the gossip was nothing but a hoax and that the actress was absolutely fine. The team commented,
“She joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. She’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet.”
Later on, the post was deleted. However, people over the internet were disappointed after finding the foul play of the news tabloid. Some days, Nadav Itzkowitz also found himself amid a death hoax which was also clarified by the stand-up comedian.
Seems like people are ready to spread fake rumors and death hoaxes just to gain a few seconds of limelight.
