Fortnite is an excellent battle royale game for many reasons, including its exciting and engaging narrative, availability of a wide range of weapons and items, and, more than anything, its split-screen option.
People with a single console often bring their friends or family to play Fortnite together using the split screen function, but what if the game removes it?
Since November 16, 2023, Fortnite has temporarily disabled the Split Screen option along with Ready Up and Keep Playing Together buttons as part of their v27.10 update. Epic Games didn’t announce when it will be back, but we should expect it to arrive in the next update, which is slated to be released next week.
Why Are Fortnite Players Complaining About Split Screen Option?
Although Fortnite is a fantastic game when it comes to providing a battle royale experience, not everyone can afford a console to play it. So, it offered a Split Screen option.
The Split Screen function lets two players play the game at the same time on the same monitor by using different controls, but it can only be used for duo and squad modes.
However, since yesterday, many gamers haven’t been able to utilize this option for unknown reasons. After further research, we’ve discovered that Fortnite has intentionally turned off the Split Screen option along with Ready Up and Keep Playing Together.
One Reddit user posted how he couldn’t access the Split Screen option while trying to log into the second account.
“With the new update in Fortnite, I can’t log in with a second account to play with in split-screen. Somebody knows why? Did they remove it?”
Apparently, Fortnite has rolled out a new update, v27.10, to bring back the elements of the first chapter to seasons 8 and 9. For that reason, they have temporarily disabled the option and posted it on X (formerly Twitter) to inform the users.
“Please note: We’ve temporarily disabled Split Screen functionality and the ‘Ready Up’ and ‘Keep Playing Together’ buttons due to an issue. We’re investigating a fix for this now and will provide an update when these features have been re-enabled.”
So, it seems like the removal of the Split Screen function will be temporary until a bug they have discovered is fixed. Fortnite has not disclosed the bug, but it is likely related to the Zadie and Metal Mouth quests and should be resolved with this patch.
Assuming they will roll out another update next week, the Split Screen option should be back in no time.
How Did Gamers React to a Disabled Split Screen Option?
The Split Screen option is a game changer in Fortnite, so seeing it no longer functional even though it’s temporary, many gamers became impatient. They took to social media, such as X, and expressed dissatisfaction. Here are some notable reactions:
So, what issue do you think Fortnite has encountered before the update that they have to disable the Split Screen function?
