Hailing from Copiague, New York, McClurkin grew up in Amityville on Long Island, just outside of New York City.
His early years were marred by tragedy when, at the age of eight, his two-year-old brother was fatally struck by a speeding driver, leading to family turmoil. McClurkin himself endured childhood sexual abuse, first at the hands of his great uncle and later by his great uncle’s son.
