The stadium roars into cheers, causing tremors after hearing the iconic line, “BLACKPINK In Your Area!”
The Born Pink tour was one of the most successful K-pop concerts, considering sold-out arenas that hosted over 2.11 million Blinks from all around the world. With 66 legendary performances in 34 cities, the tour wrapped up on September 17 in Seoul, which was considered the largest world tour conducted by a K-pop girl group.
And not just the tour, BLACKPINK was also dominating global stages, headlining one of the biggest music festivals, Coachella. The girls have been praised for their dedication and engaging stages for their fans.
Even though a few criticisms emerged regarding their stage presence and lackluster performances, Blink stood in full force, barricading the girl group from malicious comments.
Meanwhile, the girls were also pursuing their solo activities and, at the same time, managing the strenuous concert days. Jisoo has garnered accolades for her acting debut and is also gearing up for her sophomore projects. The recent revelation of her relationship with fellow actor Ahn Bo Hyun received immense support from fans and peers.
Whereas Lisa has her hands full with multiple solo projects and luxury brand endorsements. Recently, Lisa achieved a new milestone of being the first Korean act to perform at Crazy Horse in Paris. But her private life was also under unwarranted scrutiny when she was rumored to be dating Frédéric Arnault, CEO of Tag Heuer.
Jennie took a massive plunge this year with her Hollywood debut in the HBO series IDOL. Although she received criticism for her choice of role, she was also commended for the bold move. And in an unrelated turn of events, she was also embroiled in dating rumors with BTS member V.
And Rosé is being her iconic self with multiple fashion shows, MET Gala appearances, and preparing for her next album.
BLACKPINK’s initial contract expired a few months ago. The members were in negotiation talks with YG Entertainment to renew their contract.
In the latest update, inside sources have revealed that Lisa, Jisoo, and Jennie have decided not to renew their contract with YG Entertainment in a ‘separate, yet together’ strategy. So far, only Rosé has agreed on the contract renewal. The resources also revealed that Lisa and Jisoo were offered mammoth amounts for the next tenure. However, the two parted ways and joined different Korean agencies. This does not mean that BLACKPINK is disbanding. According to the agreement, the members will dedicate six months out of the year to BLACKPINK group activities.
Did BLACKPINK Renew Their Contract With YG?
The speculations of Jisoo leaving BLACKPINK surfaced in June when a Google glitch showed only the rest of the three members when searching for the K-pop girl group. Although the agency denied any such rumors, netizens believed there’s no smoke without fire. Blinks were split in opinions that Jisoo might actually leave after the success of her solo debut.
Meanwhile, Lisa had several negotiation rounds with YGE over her contract agreements while busy with her solo activities. Amidst these meetings, certain articles spread misinformation about Lisa with an intention to tarnish her reputation. Blinks quickly came to her defense, trending #ALWAYSWITHYOULISA on X.
On September 19, it was revealed that Lisa rejected the 50 billion Won renewal offer from YG Entertainment.
Although there are no confirmed reports, an undisclosed resource has revealed that “Jennie will not be renewing her contract with YGE.” But some insiders from the agency maintain that they are still “in talks” with the “Solo” main rapper.
Only Rosé is confirmed to be continuing with YGE. And the irony is that she has been least favored by the agency in recent years.
After the news, YGE stocks plummeted with a 13.28% decline in stock value. Within 24 hours, YGE’s share price closed at the lowest of 69,200 KRW (51.59 USD) per share compared to the previous day’s price of 79,800 KRW (59.50 USD).
What are your thoughts on this case? Do you think BLACKPINK will retain popularity even if the members are signed with other agencies?
