Every time the name of a beloved celebrity trends, their fans get a mini heart attack. After all, the year has been filled with divorces, break-ups, and deaths.
So when NBC Today’s beloved co-anchor Al Roker began trending on X/ Twitter, his well-wishers and fans reacted similarly. Many suspected that he had passed away due to the frightening health scare that was plaguing him from last year.
But the truth is a little different.
No, Al Roker hasn’t passed away. He is trending on Twitter/ X because he has overcome his health scare of blood clots in his lungs and legs, as well as two bleeding ulcers last year. The television personality had to undergo a 7-hour surgery at the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center to fix it. Now, he is back at work.
Why Is Al Roker Suddenly Trending?
Al Roker is trending, not because of his death, but quite literally the opposite. Because he has safely recovered from a near-death experience and is now back at work.
On November 8, People magazine published an exclusive clip of Wednesday’s episode of “Your Mama’s Kitchen” (an Audible podcast). On there, Al Roker talked about his hospitalization last year. He said:
“It’s no secret that I had a severe medical issue, and to be completely honest, I almost died. I didn’t know it at the time. But I missed Thanksgiving and almost missed Christmas, and I forgot how important those touchstone moments are.”
The NBC anchor was hospitalized in 2022 for blood clots in his lungs and legs. He had to undergo a 7-hour intense surgery at the Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York to correct it. The 69-year-old said on Today:
“Look, I had two complicating things. I had blood clots, which they think came up after I had COVID in September. And then I had this internal bleeding going on. I lost half my blood. They were trying to figure out where it was.”
During surgery, doctors found that there were more problems. He had two bleeding ulcers as well. So even though he went in for one surgery, he had to get four.
The Today co-anchor revealed his family, and the thought of spending the holidays with them again helped him fight the frightening health problems.
Now, he is back, better than before, and on November 10, 2023, he will moderate the “Behind the Camera Panel event” at the Cleveland Public Auditorium at 7.
So fans can rest easy knowing that Al Roker is back at his job more than alive after overcoming multiple severe health crises.
