After gauging the success of Castlevania, Netflix might be planning on another game-to-anime adaptation. According to a leak, the streaming site has set its sight on Dark Souls next, and the anime is already under production.
Dark Souls is one of the most celebrated RPGs. Its dark and gritty aesthetic, combined with smooth gameplay, has attracted a lot of players. Netflix might be trying to tap into the vast audience from the gaming world with its new series.
However, some of Netflix’s previous attempts at adapting multi-media franchises have been met with criticism. The live-action series Death Note and Cowboy Bebop are probably the biggest victims, so let’s hope Netflix can attempt a better adaptation this time.
Plot of Dark Souls
Since the plot for the anime has not been revealed yet, it’s best to consider that the game’s introduction will largely inspire the story. Thankfully, Dark Souls has a very elaborate setting. According to a source, the anime series might cover the first game’s events.
The premise of the game shows a world that dragons once ruled during the “Age of Ancients.” A primordial ‘First Flame’ manifests in the world, leading to the creation of four powerful beings who eventually destroy the dragons.
The game takes place towards the end of the Age of Ancients when humans have significantly risen in power but are afflicted with a curse. Those humans who get a circular flaming symbol on their bodies resurrect after death until they lose their minds. This is known as the ‘hollowing.’ The protagonist/player is a cursed undead locked in an asylum. After escaping, they must acquire the Lord Souls of the four great beings.
Release Date of Dark Souls Anime
Since no official sources have confirmed the production information of Dark Souls, a release date is not out yet. You will have to sit tight until Netflix officially reveals the series.
