It’s a love story beyond borders. The series explores the political conflict and dysfunctional family dynamics and gives a glimpse of the highly contrasting lifestyles of South Korea and North Korea.
After taking the viewers on a roller-coaster ride of an emotional story, a few sparks are floating about a possible sequel. Here is a complete rundown of the first and likely following seasons.
What Is The Storyline of Crash Landing On You?
The story begins with an introduction to two separate lifestyles.
Yoon Se-Ri’s Story:
Yoon Se-Ri comes from a chaebol family (uber-rich conglomerates). Yoon Se-RI was raised in a lavish lifestyle with two elder brothers and parents. But yet, after years of never feeling like she belonged to the family, she ventures out on her own. Without taking a single penny from her family, she starts her own beauty brand, Seri’s Choice. And she quickly rose in the business world as one of the youngest and most influential self-made entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, her two brothers and their respective wives are busy in dog-fights to get their stake in their father’s conglomerate. But Seri’s father feels that she should be the next CEO of his company. This creates an animosity between the siblings. One day at the dinner table, Seri declares that she will think about her father’s wishes, dismaying her greedy brothers.
She is also feared at her company for being an efficient boss who would never settle for anything less.
Ri Jung-Hyuk’s Life:
Ri Jung-Hyuk is a law-abiding army officer. He is designated as a captain in the Korean People’s Army. He lives alone in a small village where other military officers and their families reside. He also has his five confidantes and subordinates, whom he trusts to be secluded from the other corrupt officials.
Jung-Hyuk’s parents live in a separate home outside the village; his father is a retired military officer of the highest ranks. But one trauma always follows Jung-hyuk as his older brother died in a tragic accident, later revealed far more sinister.
Their Two Worlds Colliding:
But the story begins when our badass girl Seri goes paragliding to destress one day after the harrowing family dinner. Her always-stressed manager is worried about her adventure, but she is steadfast in her decision.
Destiny seems to have other plans when a cyclone suddenly hits, and she is swept off the radar. And the poor girl gets stuck in a tree unconscious. When she regains consciousness, she panic calls on the radio for help, but it malfunctions after a while. All of a sudden, she feels eyes on her. Captain Ri is confused with a random woman stuck on the tree, and he demands she gets down. Seri, being her sassy self, tells him she is stuck, but when he pulls out his gun, she unbuckles and lands straight into his arms. That is why the series is called Crash Landing On You.
But the story reaches a penultimate of excitement when our poor Seri realizes she has landed in North Korea. Instead of going down herself, she decides to embroil Captain Ri in her mishap for helping her even though she is a South Korean.
From there on begins their misadventures of getting her back safely to the other side without either of their heads on the chopping block. She begins to assimilate herself into his lifestyle of non-materialism, minimalism, and getting along with the village people, which is a challenge in itself.
The story also explores two other main characters– Seo Dan, Captain Ri’s fiance, and Albert Gu, a conman suspiciously entangled with Seri.
The Antagonists:
The series also navigates through the corruption in the military, where high-ranking officers are carrying out criminal activities to conceal their shady business. The primary villain of our story is Cho Cheol-gang, the most corrupt lieutenant responsible for Captain Ri’s older brother’s murder. He then targets Captain Ri when he discovers a suspicious woman (Seri) living in his house. The military has deployed “Rats” or special officers tasked to listen to private conversations of all the homes in their regiment.
He begins to plot the main couple’s death.
The series also narrates the life unlived, seen through the eyes of North Koreans (Captain Ri’s five subordinates).
What Happened At The End Of ‘Crash Landing On You’ Season 1?
Captain Ri escapes from North Korea to South Korea to save Seri when he finds out that the villain has escaped the prison and plans to kill her. His father deploys his five confidantes to bring back Captain Ri safely.
After the final altercation between Captain Ri and his gang with Cheol-gang and his goons, he manages to kill the villain, but Seri gets shot during the fight. While Seri is hospitalized, Captain Ri is arrested by South Korean police for interrogation.
When the police decide to send him back to North Korea, Seri run to him in the final moments and hugs him with a promise that they shall be together.
The series ends with the two living in their respective countries but going on long holidays together in Switzerland.
The series also shows cute serendipity when it is revealed that Seri and Captain Ri had met in Switzerland, even before the story started, foreshadowing their fate all along.

Is ‘Crash Landing On You’ Season 2 Renewed?
There has been no confirmation or green light on the production of season 2 of Crash Landing On You. Some netizens believe that the season ended with a perfect story. Also, Seo Dan and Albert’s storyline was quite tragic with Albert’s death.
While other fans are expecting a subsequent season, continuing to show the life of Captain Ri and Seri together. But also show a different love story with new characters, harping on the similar concept of inter-border stories.
