There are two sides to every story, people are generally encouraged to let legal proceedings occur before they pass their judgment.
However, legal expenses are often significant, so the parties usually open GoFundMe or other alternative fundraising methods. Something similar happened in the Carlisha Hood and Jeremy Brown murder case. Except there was one difference.
Only one of them, Carlisha Hood, has a GoFundMe page to receive donations. As such, people wonder if there is a way to help Jeremy Brown, who was shot and killed by Hood’s 14-year-old son. On June 18, the 35-year-old mother and her minor son shot Brown at a Chicago hot dog stand. By the time police arrived at the scene, Brown was already dead.
An alleged GoFundMe has been set up for Jeremy Brown by his cousin Ashanti Brown with a goal of $1000 for his service. It hasn’t been confirmed if his family set up the fundraiser. The 32-year-old man was shot dead by Carlisha Hood’s 14-year-old son (name withheld) after a verbal altercation escalated to Brown repeatedly hitting Hood. The murder charges against the mother and son have been dismissed by the authorities.
What Happened to Jeremy Brown? Did Carlisha Hood Murder Him?
As per the court documents obtained, Carlisha Hood had a verbal altercation with Jeremy Brown at the Maxwell Street Express in Chicago’s South Side on June 18. She had entered the stand to get food at about 11 p.m. while waiting for her son. During the verbal fight, Hood texted her son to bring a firearm.
Amid the altercation, the victim punched Carlisha on the head multiple times. Later, her 14-year-old son, whose name is withheld, shot the 32-year-old Jeremy Brown several times. Jeremy took a bullet to the back of the head and was pronounced dead right there. It isn’t known what caused the initial verbal argument inside the store.
Carlisha and her son gave themselves up and were taken by the police into custody. They were charged with first-degree murder, and a $3 million bond was also set. However, authorities later took off her name from the jail record book.
The murder charges have been dismissed by Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office. USA Today reported that:
“Based upon our continued review and in light of emerging evidence, today, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) has moved to dismiss the charges. Based upon the facts, evidence, and the law, we are unable to meet our burden of proof in the prosecution of these cases.”
Carlisha Hood had set up a GoFundMe to pay for her legal expenses. She had raised upwards of $15,000 through it. The fundraiser acknowledged that there could be diverging accounts but claimed that Hood acted in self-defense. But people also want to know if there is a way to aid Brown’s family too.
Can We Help Jeremy Brown GoFundMe?
The 32-year-old Jeremy Brown is no more. Carlisha Hood’s 14-year-old son killed him with a firearm. Allegedly, Hood’s son chased Brown out of the store while firing at him. The victim suffered a bullet wound to the back of his head and was pronounced dead at the scene even before he could be taken to a hospital.
An alleged GoFundMe has been set up for Jeremy Brown by his cousin Ashanti Brown with a goal of $1000 for his service. $125 has been raised at the time of writing. However, whether his family is doing the fundraiser has yet to be confirmed.
More information is awaited.
