An idol simply breathing can raise several connotations. The hawk-eyed netizens are prone to compile “evidence” based on a few images and social media posts. Just recently, Joshua from Seventeen was subjected to similar speculations of dating a model based on circumstantial evidence.
Instead of jumping to conclusions, most netizens have now adapted to these baseless rumors and instead debunk them with facts.
People believe the idol is dating only after their agencies confirm their relationship via a formal statement. One unverified report was quickly debunked that claimed Junho and Yoona were dating, but both agencies denied these rumors. Dispatch is a famous Korean agency/ paparazzi responsible for revealing celebrity dating news.
But nowadays, every ardent K-pop/ K-drama fan thinks they can detect a dating scandal from a few images. If you think these images must be of a couple engaging in PDA or some affection suggesting they are dating….you are absolutely wrong!
These exhibits work on the concept of “couple items.” It is the latest type of forensic technology that deduces the relationship status based on similarity in items between two people. Here is the basic meter to determine the level of rumors between two people:
- If they have one matching item: then it’s either a coincidence or one is inspired by the other.
- If there are between 2-4 matching items, it might be the start of something, or the two people are hinting at each other.
- If there are five or more matching items: then the relationship is confirmed.
- But God forbid if there is evidence of them at the same place at the same time: they are headed for marriage, had a baby already, or something ridiculous conclusion.
The latest celebrity under this microscope is 32-year-old actress Song Da Eun who is linked to the global star BTS’ Jimin. Song Da Eun earned her limelight after appearing on the reality dating show ‘Heart Signal 2.’ Since then, she has appeared in minor roles for some hit shows like Be Melodramatic, The Golden Spoon, Dear My Room, and Once Again. She is a relatively unknown name in the K-Drama world yet.
And then, there’s Jimin! The boy is as popular as the seven wonders of the world. JImin has consistently topped Korea’s brand reputation ranking, being the most sought-after celebrity. His latest debut studio solo album FACE is not just a Hallyu wave but an entire tsunami, breaking records and climbing global charts.
The point is that it’s just two random people involved in a dating rumor based on a few similarities/coincidences. ARMYs rose to the challenge and quickly whipped out arguments to debunk these rumors.
First Evidence: The Mystery Of Similar Pots And Pans
A netizen pointed out that the Instagram pics posted by the actress showcased a burn of utensils that resemble the one Jimin posted on Weverse.
Decoding the evidence: Fans quickly debunked these claims, stating that these utensils are similar but not the same. One netizen created an online community post, where they posted images that disprove this theory. They wrote in the post–
“Plates: are different. The plate that Song Da Eun posted on her Instagram story has a line on the edge. The one Jimin posted on Weverse doesn’t have a line.”
“The pot: same Fissler product of different size (common product). This is a brand the other members use as well.”
Second Evidence: Marvel At The Similar Marble
The other evidence implying that both were in the same place was the marble countertop. They picked up images from Da Eun’s Instagram stories and compared them with Jimin’s kitchen. This exhibit was to prove that she must have visited his place.
Decoding the evidence: The same online community post detected the dissimilarities between the two images, stating–
“The table is the Italian marble type that many people use.”
The fan also color-coded the false claim by writing–
“The sofa on Song Da Eun’s Instagram has dark and shiny color with the pillar on the right side. However, Jimin’s sofa is gray and matte with the pillar on the left side”.
Third Evidence: Mutual Connections
Some netizens claimed that Song Da Eun met Jimin through acquaintances. After digging through the depths of delusion, they discovered they have mutual friends, including Lee Soo Ji and Ji Se Ho.
Debunking this evidence: Sure, Da Eun must have met Jimin through these connections. And when we say “meeting Jimin,” it’s presumed that it goes by in a flash of a second. Being a part of the most famous boy group in the world, churning on tight schedules, and surrounded by stern security, this meet-cute seems highly unlikely.
Fourth Evidence: The Case Of The Same Jewellery
Sporting matching accessories is the final nail in the coffin of the rumors. If two people are spotted wearing matching Jewellery, the implications are straightforward– they are dating.
Decoding the evidence: However, the detective ARMYs did not hold back in debunking this evidence with solid proof–
“Song Da Eun’s earrings are from Hannah Jewelry, while Jimin’s earrings are products by Just Lover. The V-shaped necklaces are also from different brands”.
Also, Jimin started wearing the V necklace after he was selected as the brand ambassador for the luxury brand Louis Vuitton.
Last Evidence: Same Place At The Same Time
Remember the fourth meter of dating rumors? Being in the same place simultaneously is stirring some severe speculations.
Decoding the evidence: ARMY pointed out that being at the exact football match is such a high probability. With that logic, at least thousands of couples should be at that match. The fan put forth their detection–“The ‘Korea Wins’ banner was on the right of Song Da Eun’s seat, while it was on the left of Jimin’s seat. Their seats are opposite and Jimin sat near the rear with J-Hope”.

“I don’t think the two of them are dating. From all the evidence, it seems like maybe Song Da Eun is having a crush on Jimin. Same Instagram posts and jewelry might be a coincidence, and if not, then maybe Song Da Eun tried to match jewelry with Jimin. Army should always support him.”
“Y’all just said, let’s make up a rumor abt Jimin, and *pulls a random paper from a bowl with a bunch of random women names* song da eun I guess.”
“Why the hell are ppl even giving fake information?? Like how did they even know Song da Eun was with Jimin in the restaurant ?! Like ?! The picture was blurry, and y’all be like, wow yea, song da Eun and Jimin …what the hell ?!”
