You are what you believe…the belief comes from your thoughts…the thoughts come from determination….and the determination comes from purpose.
The Jedis are a powerful force, initiating through their minds. They train vigorously to feel the inkling of a supernatural power called the Force. Jedis practice developing intuition and imbibe intense self-discipline to yield this Force, which gives them the ability of telekinesis, supernatural strength, and alignment with someone else’s thoughts.
At the same time, Jedis are supposed to be guardians and peace-keepers. They only use violence as a last resort, even though they possess such immense powers in the Star Wars universe. Per Star Wars creator George Lucas, Jedis “use their power to keep the governments of all the planets in line so that they don’t do terrible things.”
These “warrior monks” are a perfect allegory to “fighters for peace,” wearing their robes and tunics to denote simplicity and carrying lightsabers as the deadliest weapon.
One thing remains most significant to become a Jedi– and that is having the Force.
However, Sabine Wren is about to challenge this norm by training for Jedi, even though she has the weakest Force.
Is Sabine Wren a Jedi?
The Ahsoka series brought in the lightsaber droid Huyang. He has served the Jedi order for over 25000 years. Per his judgment, Sabine has an incredibly low aptitude for the Force. The probability of her developing this supernatural power is very slim.
Yet, there is something about Sabine Wren that draws her towards this life. Sabine started as a Mandalorian Warrior and has shown proficiency in handling weapons. Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus taught Sabine how to use the lightsaber during the “Rebels” episodes.
She might not be a Jedi as per the norms yet, but the recent episodes show easter eggs that Sabine is attuned to sense the Force disturbances while receiving dreams and visions.
Her case is the perfect archetype of the teachings of Luke Skywalker in The Rise of Kylo Ren, where he aptly puts the essence of the Force–
“The Force can be a trickle, a stream, a river, a flood.”
“for anyone who can sense it. Think of yourself as a door. The wider you open, the more easily the Force flows through you. Some people just start out with their door a bit more open, but any door can open wide.”
Sabine is not a Jedi yet, but she is definitely in the process of becoming a Force to be reckoned with. All she needs is a befitting master.
When Did Sabine Become a Jedi?
Ahsoka harps on the theme of “Master and Apprentice.”
After the Battle of Lothal, Ezra sacrificed himself to defeat Thrawn and was teleported to a new galaxy. Ahsoka needed strong recruits in the Rebels. Somewhere between– after the battle and the start of the spinoff series, Ahsoka Tano takes Sabine Wren as her Padawan. The equally stubborn women clashed on many levels, but that’s the beauty of Star Wars. It subverts the usual mentor-student relationship and introduces circumstances where both can grow from each other. Even though they parted ways before, there seems to be an unwavering bond between them.
After a few prompts from Hera Syndulla, Ahsoka has agreed to take Sabine as her apprentice again. The new series will navigate through Sabine’s journey of imbibing the Jedi code and eventually reach her full potential.
Star Wars Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+
